Loot Bag (idea)

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 4:59 pm

This is just an idea I've been muddling over since Oblivion but the first time I've put it into words.

Thanks to rather quick House Ownership in Skyrim I've discovered I have a "set" of adventuring items I take out on a normal bases; certain armors, weapons, potions, etc. I'll go out on my quest, come back with loot I've grabbed, then sell or store what I don't need. This results in having the generic "set" of items again generaly.

Well as I'm sure many of you know, items can get lost or misplaced in your inventory (mostly to forgetfulness) and 5 quests later you realize you've been carrying around a 20lb brass bowl from who knows where that you didn't need or a useless potion you only grabbed to sell and never did.

This brings me to my idea. A "Loot Bag" slot in the inventory. This would be a default slot where all your grabbed items would go during a quest and leave your normal inventory uncluttered for immedaite use or later. Then when you get back to town, you know exactly what you grabbed, can sort through it rather rapidly with a "put in inventory option" or go to a shop keep and jump into the "Loot Bag" slot to sell whats in there instead of having to sort through your normal inventory for that pesky Magika Drain Posion.

In conlclusion, I just think this will save time and hassle when it comes to sorting items and break down the formiable "list" we have in inventorys by creating a smaller duplicate list of stuff you've just grabbed versus your normal adventure kit.

Thoughts?

Well, when I first saw the satchel around the mage robes in the concept art, I figured you'd be able to use it.

It'd be nice..

I use a mod on the PC that changes the UI to allow the player to sort items in their inventory based on certain criteria. I also try to keep in mind what my character could realistically carry and not grab everything in sight until I'm over-encumbered. It helps keep the Skyrim economy balanced and my priorities in check.

Your idea touches on a commonly shared grievance against Skyrim: the inventory screen is horribly cluttered and consists of wwwaaayyy too much scrolling.

I'm not completely sure I like the solution you proposed for the problem, simply because I honestly haven't afforded too much critical thought to it, but I suppose its worth mentioning that the SkyUI mod fixes this problem in its own way and that you'd do well to have a look at it.

Cool idea! It would also prevent me from accidently selling my favorite item when rushing through the inventory at a merchant. If they could make it optional so you could toggle the feature on and off it would be perfect, since it might not appeal to everyone, but I would use it.

It isn't a bad idea, but the same thing could be achieved with some basic tweaks to the inventory system.

Yeah, this very thing has me thinking of a mod I would like....

It would limit what you could carry in the long run. Your character would be able to equip those Apothecary's Satchels and backpacks. They could even come in different colors.
The satchel being worn around the waste.
The backpack would be worn on the back.
Chests can be physically carried. Not put into your inventory, I mean your character will pick up and hold onto it. This will put you into an "over encumbered" state until put down.

All spaces would be given a max 'volume' value and each item is given a volume value that it takes up.

Carriages/wagons can be purchased and works kinda like a house (anything placed on it gets saved so it won't vanish) and any horse you own can be equipped with it.

Ingredients is the only thing that goes in the satchel and will automatically be placed in it when collecting, provided you are wearing one.
Items that can't go into the satchel (non ingredients, items too big, satchel is full, or you don't have one) will automatically go into your backpack provided there is space and the item is not too large for that as well (and that you have one). Chests are considered "equipped" when being carried. This will allow you to loot items off bodies that are too big for the backpack (armor and weapons) which will automatically go into the chest until full.

Chest themselves can then be taken from dungeons and forts, put on the wagon (allowing you to travel more quickly with a couple, and even fast travel), then carried into town (passing an instance while carrying one will bring it with you), and finally put into your home.

This would go with another mod which follows the concept of the game Bloodrayne with the way you were limited to the weapons you carried because those that you picked up were worn on your character.
