I've lost a companion and its ruining the game for me

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 9:42 pm

I had been traveling with Marcurio for a while now, and the game just seemed so much more better with him by my side. His magic complimented my playstyle so perfectly that its just not as fun to play without him. I actually have to will myself to start a quest and finish it, and by the end it feels like I'm just pushing myself to play it, which is'nt fun at all.

I lost him when I went into black reach, I went down through the lift and when I got down there, he wasn't with me anymore. I know that the game [censored]s up sometimes with companions so I thought nothing of it and just continued, knowing he'd get to me sometime in the future. But he never did. I don't know if he glitched out or died, either way I've tried console commands to get him back with no success.

I would like to know-

-Excatly how many companions are we allowed? Is it 1 plus a follower? (e.g a war dog and Marcurio), or can I have two companions? (e.g. Marcurio and Lydia). I ask this because at the moment, I can only keep one companion, and if I try to hire another, they usually say to drop one thats following me already.

-Is there a way to summon the NPC to my location?

-Is there anyway to resurrect a NPC without having to click on his/her body?

Thank you for any and all help.

I know what you mean. I lost two companions already. Lydia got pwnd by a dragon and some mage who was helping in the fight turned her into a zombie and she just died =( I wasnt happy. Also, lost someone else who just disappeared when I shortcutted over a large hill. Never showed up. As far as I know, there is no way to permanently resurrect a dead NPC [unless you had the console command which, at the point, is not discovered by the public]. even then it would just be a zombie for a short time [4 minutes max I think with conjuration]. and summoning companions... honestly I dont think so. If it did exist then noone has found that yet.

my advice? revert the save or start a new game. also, theres a big variety of compaions and while they may not be perfect for you like Marcurio or whatever, there are similar companions and the such.

The only way I've found is to use the console code. Something to the effect of player.placeatme XXXXXXXX or whatever his code is. But I've had something even stranger happen since then.

See, Lydia had her head smashed in by a passing giant. Well, I summoned her back via the console. So I went on to do some quests with her, later told her to go on back home. Well, I did some further questing, and when I returned to my home, she was in the guest bedroom, declothed, dead. Still trying to figure out how it happened? No joke.

ROFL. You must have got drunk one night, blacked out, then [censored] and killed her. You bastard.

Hello, the Creation Kit is yet to be released so try the following ... this used to work in Oblivion

Load a previous save in which missing NPC is still around
Go into console mode and select the NPC with the mouse - a hex number like this (000abc12) should display - this the RefID of the NPC
Make a note of this RefID

Now load the save you want find the lost the NPC in
Go into console mode and type the following, press the Enter key after each line
Put the number you made a note of where RefID is :)

prid RefID moveto player

hopefully the NPC will be back by your side ... not sure if this works in Skyrim but worth a try at least :)

*edit*
don't use placeatme as I believe it clones an NPC and can break quests with NPC involved in

If your companion was still alive when you last saw him/her, but got lost, they either return to the original location where you met them the first time or they return to your house.

Yeah, I don't mind them doing this, but my damn horse keeps disappearing as well and it cost me 1000g. Hopefully they fix this in the next patch.

If he just disappeared, then there is a good chance he's back at the tavern in Riften where you got him in the first place.

I really don't understand what is so horrible about accepting that your partner died. I mean, that's part of the fun and risk in playing this game.

I see it as a feature, not an issue. Maybe add a toggle for people that have issues with accepting their partner's death?

i would have been okay with it if I saw him die, but if you read my post, you'll notice that he just was gone. No closure, it eats away at me. I'm diagnosed with a form OCD and this just sticks out everytime I play this game, which is getting harder and harder to do.

thank you to the earlier poster, I'll try his idea with the platatme and whatnot.

When I lost Lydia to the Falmer under Markath, I used it to roleplay.
He had a little thing for her, and when she died he got depressed. I started to thieve alot, and I joined the Dark Brotherhood. I hope to meet a nice Dunmer female there to marry.

Lots of fun

got a similar problem. Lydia, some dude and I were battling a bad bad necromancer, who turned lydia against me. Instead of [censored]slapping her, I ran out of harms way (I know. a chicken).
When i was finished with the necro I looked around for her, but she had vanished completely. No body, no housesitting, no returning to Whitey. Just absolutely gone.
And she was carrying bunch of my precioussssss belongings.

I laugh at all you folks who lost Lydia. In my game she's decked out in full legendary gear and kickin' ass!!! Brings down dragons so fast with her ebony arrows. :disco:
