Unbelievable! I've somehow lost my Ranger helmet that I found at the NCR safehouse. I don't know when or how I managed to bung this up but, going back 32 hours of game time is really not an option (I know..."save more often, you DA!"). I don't know if I accidently dropped it when using the rebreather or if I fat fingered something while using the Jury Rig perk. Either way...it's gone.

The "easiest" way to get Ranger helmet is just kill Veteran Ranger.

The safehouse replenishes every few hours.

Then you did something wrong.

Why don't you just reverse pick-pocket a power helmet onto one, fast travel to somwhere far away, come back and as long as the DT was higher then he should be wearing it and the Ranger Helmet will be in his inventory.

It took several attempts...and an out-of-the-way station (Delta), to get it done. I left Boone and Ed-E up a canyon (no witnesses). Originally I tried close in with a silenced .22 but those boys are tough and it didn't touch them. I then crept up to a high point and using a stealth boy and the Gobi with .308 armor piercing I took the Veteran down in 3 shots...then ran like hell! The NCR never figured out it was me and I sauntered back into Delta and collected a .50 MG, a spare set of the cool Ranger combat armor and the Ranger helmet.

Yep...you have to run like hell, after the deed, so they don't get a look at you. If they go by your "parked" followers (I had ED-E and Boone) then, I think, your busted also?

I never realized that characters would automatically don the highest DT item? That's some excellent info, Enclave, and I will definitely keep that in mind!

Easiest way would be to get C4 and detonator, pickpocket the C4 onto the ranger, and then go hide somewhere out of site. Then detonate the C4 and sit for a while. If you remain hidden and you lose no rep after a minute or so, you are fine. Get up and run over to the nearest other NCR guys. Talk to them. If they shoot at you, you messed up. Otherwise, you should be free now to loot the ranger for everything he has.

Muahahaha! You can easily kill in this way without affecting rep or making anyone mad. Works even with low explosives (instant kill) and low sneak, although you should save before you pickpocket, and lower sneak means it will take more tries. You can also do this with a timebomb if C4 is too pricey, you just have limited time to make it to safety.

After the patch its alot harder to get away with killing people and sometimes now I get busted when I shouldn't. I've literally been attacked by two legion mongruels at random and I killed them both, the first one I lost legion rep for...wtf one dog reported the other dog's death? I looked around and there were no other legion ppl nearby to report it...the dog told on me.

any time i kill a member of any faction - if i am alone or sneaking, i always get a bad rep with their group - or maybe you can get an enemy faction to follow you to where the rangers are and they will start fighting and maybe one will get killed. i've done that with the searchlight quest - lure the ghouls to the troopers and u get all their loot!

A real ranger just wouldn't let that happen.

I think you need a scilencer.

I think you do because firing a gun that doesn't have a sliencer will give away you position easily and everyone would be on you like flies on [censor].
