ED-E lost my stuff!

I want my stuff back!

This doctor from the Followers wanted to borrow ED-E for a few days, during which she would upgrade his laser. Naturally, I agreed. I spent the next two days or so completing quests and such. I got quite alot accomplished. One of the things I did involved a large number of robots, and I missed my Pulse Gun I'd left in ED-E's inventory, along with several other items I only used occasionally, as well as a bunch of food and water I'd crafted myself (hardcoe mode).

You can imagine my fury when I got ED-E back, only to find his inventory completely empty! What'd he do, pawn it all off? That lady was just setting me up so ED-E could have a weekend in Vegas! Now a bunch of my useful and/or interesting items are lost in the ether. I liked that Pulse Gun.

The game replaces the old ED-E with a different ID form of ED-E. The old one is still there so you can open his inventory (search on the fallout wiki to find out how to do so). If you are on the console then just reload from a save before you gave him to the guy and please don't tell me you only rely upon autosave and a single quicksave file.

Obviously I don't. But it has been a long time between me dropping him off and picking him back up (I didn't go straight back to Primm when I got the message). It was, at a guess, about five hours of play-time. Too much for me to want to go back.

I realized before posting this I was screwed, being on the console. It was more for venting purposes. I wish I'd been given a warning, that's all. And maybe someone will see this and not have the same thing happen.

Oh, well. It's still an excellent game. I'll know not to leave companions with people w/o clearing their inventories next playthrough.

I had that too. Don't worry, by playing the game you can scavenge almost all back (not the pulse gun, I presume, but most of the stuff).

Strange thing: My upgraded ED-E was empty when I picked him up then at some point, as if by magic, at least some of the things he was carrying reappeared in his inventory. I say some, it could be all as I forget exactly what he was carrying. This magical event may have something to do with the checking in of weapons, visit a Casino and see what happens.

If you get trained to use power armor, ED-E can then carry it, just like all of your companions can use it then.

No, dog always maintains the same character ID, even when upgrading his brain, so no inventory problems.

He also can carry faction armor.

N.B. ED-E is the only character I've encountered this issue with. In other instances where a character is removed from your party, they either maintain their inventory or give everything they have to you immediately (i.e., Arcade)

It's not an issue of Power Armor, but FACTION armor. If you get a non-disguise set of power armor, they can carry it (and, I'm almost certain, USE it) before you get power armor training.

I'm not sure if they ALL can use power armor before that point, but Gannon and Veronica DEFINITELY can.

Hmm, he's going to upgrade him which means his body model will be replaced...
I find it pretty logical to get your stuff out of him before the FotA guy does the upgrade.
We knew it was a buggy game, gotta think ahead about stuff.

As was said, the dog doesn't have this issue. Also, I was upgrading his laser, which isn't obvious that it would change his model (Veronica's model doesn't change when she gets her armor perk, by the way).

And "it's a buggy game" is not a good defense for an issue a game has.
