Love the new underwater transition in 1.5

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 1:01 pm

It was the first thing I tried out, when you go underwater now you cant do the glitch where you can see everything underwater clearly as if no water was there.

Also, not sure if Im going crazy or missed this, but it looks differently underwater now too, like your vision/visibility in the water is more hazy, everything near you looks sharp but as you look further out it gets more blurry,I could of swore it was different prior to 1.5,I like it though, anyways thanks Bethesda. You fixed one of my petpeeves. All thats left is 1st-person werewolf form, bloodier decaptitations, toggable kill cams, and a couple other things.

Yeah I saw that too. All I can remember about the water before the patch is that I couldn't see anything (only water I ever dived in was in a (something) Burrow, near the Northwatch Keep, and that was just gray as far as I could see (except for like an armlength or so in front of me). Now, the water is very realistic. Thing up close under water will seem sharp, while things farther away under water seems hazy. I love it :)

Yes the new blurry hazy look is pretty cool. I was instantly reminded of being in a swimming pool or lake when i saw that.

I think the old method was kind of a cop-out: When the camera is half or more submerged, put a shader filter over the whole image.

Glad they finally changed it.

When I jump in water I still get the old water effect. I only see a difference when I'm fully submerged. Kind of disappointed because I thought it was moreso that when you would dolphin swim, your eyes might get blurry and it would remove the clear water thing etc.

Yeah, it was the first thing I tried out too. Froze as soon as I jumped in the water, glorious view from being locked floating in the air.

Same is happening to me. Is there anything out there to help with this situation?

Agreed. Now that everyone (PC and console) should have patch 1.5, they get to enjoy the new immersive underwater effects (pun intended :P). Anyone notice that this is the same 'underwater effects' shown in the game jam video? Everyone is talking about the new killmoves added from gamejam, negatively or positively, but few seem to mention that this addition also made to 1.5 from the gamejam stuff. Makes me hopeful that 1.6 will add even more gamejam content. I'd love to see some graphics options like built-in SSAO.

Same here, I hope we get more underwater dungeons, either in mods or some upcoming DLC.

I love looking up at the surface of the water from beneath... i don't know what it used to look like (probably the same), but once i fixed the whole 'game crashes everytime you touch water' thing, i spent a good 2-3 minutes just staring up at the surface above.

Oh, there's more to http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Bugs_%28Skyrim%29

The merchant gold not respawning (if you sold stuff) after reloading a save is pretty annoying.

Edit: Agree on the were wolf issue, I play in first person...

I think before the patch you couldn't see out of the water - but now you can see trees and mountains shimmering with the water effect. You also get that displaced vision effect

I'm playing an Argonian atm so it's been just perfect for me as he does a lot of travelling by water.

It looks great but the underwater aspect of TES games is poor and skyrim is the worst of the lot.
