Lucky 38 messed up.

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:12 am

I've got a serious problem with the Strip (360 version). I've finally decided to got there after doing side quests and such for twenty hours or so.

Here's what is supposed to happen (after I got this problem I looked it up in the guide book):

When you enter the strip, Victor comes up and tells you to talk to House. This starts a quest. When you go to the 38, the doors are sealed, and Victor is there to open them for you. He is then inside at the elevator, and you go up to talk to House.

My game is nothing like that. Victor comes up and talks to me, but no quest starts. Also, the doors are already open, and there is a dead Victor lying on the ground in front. So I'm talking to Victor while Victor lies dead. Victor-alive goes into the 38. When I follow, all the Securitrons inside, including Victor, are hostile. There's nothing I can do. Even if I make my way to Mr. House, either killing all the bots or sneaking by, I cannot interact with House in any way.

This happens in ALL of my saves, even ones from a dozen hours ago. I read on some random forum someone say they thought Vault 11 had something to do with it. Unfortunately, I did that before my oldest save (there's no way I'd reload a save more than ten or twelve hourse earlier, and I did that Vault well before that, so why would I keep one that old?)

This is game-breaking for me, for this playthrough, at least. I'd been intending to side with House from the beginning. Can anyone help me? I'm begging here. I love this game, and this one issue is going leave a very bad taste in my mouth.

Is vault 11 the suicide one? If so, that makes you fail 'The House always Wins'

I wouldnt imagine that its possible to fix your issue without using the developer console unfortunately. I would recommend starting a new character. It might be worth trying to skip the Mr House part and go straight on to the next part of the quest chain and see if it pops up then.

Starting a new character... man. I'm almost thirty hours deep, and I have to start a new character because someone screwed up and tagged a robot in that vault as belonging to House. I don't want to rant, but this is infuriating.
I'm never going to get to experience the siding-with-Mr. House version of the plot. Sure, I could avoid that bug, but if I'm starting a new character I'm going to want to play differently.

I'm really, extremely disappointed. To the point where I don't know if I want to bother playing through again. :(

Vault 11 unfortunately screws you over if you destroy any of the turrets. Sorry man, the glitches bug me too. Got screwed out of a few quests and can never get the schematic to make Turbo because of similar crap.

So disheartening. I was so excited to finally get to the Strip, too. I just tried to play again, and I just couldn't bring myself to. Such a crucial thing to be broken by such a small, stupid mistake. In researching this I've seen posts all over of people with this bug, it's even in the wiki (although it seems there is some difference between the bug on pc and on 360).

It would be so easy to fix. I mean, it's too late for me, but no one should have to have this happen.

IDK. Maybe I'll feel like starting uo a new character at some point. For now, New Vegas is over for me.

I agree, though i might start again, i have reached the same point, i can use the console command to stop the bots from attacking, but Mr House won't say anything, all i can speak to is the female bots in the penthouse.

Very very very bad programming if this is a broken quest line.

Shame really was enjoying the game unlit this happened.

I had the same thing happen. Go to Ceasar's camp after you get approached by the disguised Legion Frumitarii (sp?) who gives you the mark of Ceasar.

Ceasar will send you into the underground bunker, and another Mr. House terminal is there, and I was able to talk to him there with no problems.

The Legion shoots me on site, and I them. Besides, the issue isn't just talking to House. I want the story to play out the right way. I want whatever it is that happens when you go up that tower to happen. I don't want to have to play the game entirely differently for hours as some big workaround that won't even really fix anything.

This is one of the main quest lines, for one of the three main factions. I want it to work.

It's dramatic to ask that a game works? "Just" abandon the character I've spent 30 hours on and play the whole thing over again? :shakehead:

At least they just announced they are working on a big patch for all three systems. I'm happy to hear they are supporting the game, and not just the pc version, which would be easier for them. Here's hoping this is on the list to be fixed.

I can't believe people are making excuses for this. I loved Fallout 3 and this game was to be the highlight of my gaming year but it is so full of game-breaking bugs and inconsistencies it's unbelievable. 120 hours and my game was derailed by this, forcing me into killing Mr. House, and to add to the misery the Legion have also turned hostile , despite me carrying the Mark of Caesar. I really want to love this game too, but the level of simple-to-fix bugs which totally break the game's storyline are unforgivable. Whoever runs the game-testing dept. at Obsidian should really be out of a job.

I have this same problem with Victor. I have played 38 hours and this happens. Unbelieveable.
I'm not going to abandon my character, so this problem must be solved. Somehow.
I have a console to use (since I play on PC).

Does anyone know Victor's ID in The Strip? I know it's in G.E.C.K., but I never used it before.
Maybe I can spawn / restart him there in front of Lucky 38 and it will work. And maybe not. But I have to try everything. I'm not losing 38 hours of gameplay on pathetic bug like this.

Don't start a new character, just choose another route. The exact same thing happened on my first playthrough, and it didn't hinder my ability to finish the game.

It did, however, hinder my ability to converse with Mr. House and unload my snow globes. If you have snow globes right now, they'll be a permenant dead weight in your inventory for the rest of the game. Just kill House like normal, and fight through his securitrons. Once you upload Yes Man to the mainframe, the Lucky 38 is your's.

First, let me say that I completely sympathize with this point of view and you're absolutely right to feel this way.

Having said that, it's probably unrealistic to expect a fix for the 360. Maybe there will be one, so maybe you should wait. If you reject this idea, I have a suggestion to continue with your current game, similar to TES_Ronin's:

Channel your real life rage and frustration against Mr. House. Pretend that he screwed up something near and dear to your character the way Obsidian screwed up this bug. Say that you found the dead Victor and suddenly that revealed the ... whatever it is. Make something up. Mr. House killed your dog, supports seal clubbing, outlawed ice cream, whatever works for your character. Something that all at once unmasks him as someone you would never want to support after all. Swear a blood oath against House and pursue a different ending.

It's actually pretty fun to let your game take an unexpected turn this way. I had a character all planned out to support the NCR, but as the game wore on I decided that she didn't actually like them and one of the companion NPCs talked her into going for an independent Vegas instead. Roll with it.

Would it be better if the game worked as intended? Yes. But this one bug, and not getting the ending you want, doesn't mean that you should throw those 30+ hours and the game away.

This is a really terrible bug, but you can always just do the NCR, Legion, or Yes Man ending. Save the House path for your next playthrough.

30 hours isn't really a lot for this game, but I tend to get attached to my characters and the decisions I've made. I wouldn't like starting over.

Just know that you have options.

the 360 can easily be patched to fix this. It will most likely to be in the patch , but in such a matter you cannot have entered the strip yet. I am currently debating to just leave the 38 alone and do something else instead, but I really cannot stop to think that I might have used my snow globes :(

Like I said, maybe they'll patch it. If you want to wait and see, don't let me stop you. Personally, I wouldn't hold my breath. My suggestion was just that, a suggestion in case the OP doesn't want to wait and see, or the big magical patch is released tomorrow but doesn't fix it.

First, let me say that ...

I appreciate the thought you put into that post. I do like rolling with the punches in a game, which is why often don't reload an old save when I screw something up in the story (aside from ED-E dying, I love that little bugger with his occasional random assaults on civilians). However, I think making up a story to explain away a bug like this is beyond my personal ability to roleplay.

I did decide to pick it back up. There was always this nagging at the back of my mind as I played about the broken quest-line, but I played through it. I followed Benny to Caesar's fort and began to get drawn in again. I was finally seeing the big threat to the Mojave on its own turf. And it felt cool when Arcade asked what we were doing here, and I said we were just taking stock of the enemy. It was cool because I meant it. Then, I get sent by Caesar into the bunker and find there a Mr. House terminal. The very first thing he said was something to the effect of, "I'm very disappointed you didn't accept my invitation to the Lucky 38. It was quite an honor I extended to you."

I turned the game off on the spot.
