Is lycanthropy worth it?

Trying to decide if I want to keep this or not? I would go into more detail but want to avoid any spoilers. So without any spoilers, what say you all? Keep beast form or get rid of it?

I find myself not using the beast form too often, but really like the disease immunity (the character in my avatar isn't the wolf, but he's a disease magnet so it's given me much appreciation). I have use of the standing stones to counteract the lack of well rested bonus so that's no biggie. All in all it's not all that crucial to get rid of it for me. Best use of the form I've gotten was traveling fast, and if I get too heavy to run it works wonders.

Would be good for a random killing spree if one felt the need, considering the townsfolk don't recognize you.

Why would anyone want to get rid of beast form? I would just like to add levels for werewolves and skills, perks etc

I never even thought about the ability to run while being overburdened. Does it completely negate all carrying capacity or just simply bump it up to a higher level?

The few things beast form could is access to the character menu, even just for info purposes. Or a way to transform back at will. Even though the duration is fairly short, waiting around to change to loot bodies is tough. That's about the worst part now that I think about it. Twiddiling your big ol' thumbs waiting.

I THINK the weight goes up to 1000 for carrying.... but I could be wrong. Either way, it's no small number.

yep, traveling in beast form is fun, immunity, and killing sprees.

would love a fleshed out vamp/wolf system.

Good info guys. I agree that the ability to change back to human form at will would make this much more appealing to me. Also since I am still a fairly low level, the inability to get the resting bonus is a pretty decent drawback as well. So far...

Pros:
  • Massive carrying capacity upgrade
  • Immune to disease
  • Looks pretty badass
Cons:
  • No resting bonus
  • Inability to change back at will
  • Can't use it in cities without causing mass hysteria and panic

^ If you use something like the Lover's Stone as your standing stone that adds a 15% bonus for skill building on everything. So that helps that lack of sleep.

I just keep it for the immunity to disease. unless you want to be a vamp I see no downside. Just don't use the beastform.

For sure. If you're constantly slaying people while in beast form, you can keep it going for a while. You do come out of it naked and you have to re-equip everything, which can be VERY annoying if it expires in the middle of a fight.

From a non-rp point of view, keep it unless you want to be a vamp. Which by the way is much more appealing as a necromage vampire (see sig).

Free disease immunity and 1900 carry capacity, you don't need the rested bonus anyway.

Hell yeah it's worth it (mainly for the disease immunity). I never rest for sleeping bonuses anyways, so it's all win-win for me.

Eh, I use it for nothing more than roleplaying purposes.

I'd say yes because it's very fun.

It's exceptionally useful in combat as a low level character, and even as enemies become more difficult the ability to knock them back can change the face of a battle. In addition, you can use it to move faster than a horse and carry gear despite being overencumbered. In addition...
Spoiler
The Ring of Hircine allows you to transform as much as you like, which makes the Beast Form exponentially more useful. You can clear out a room, wait an hour to transform back, loot everyone, and then become a werewolf again.

It isn't IMO, the big problem is you can not get bonus from resting. So sleep is pointless if you are a werewolf type.

lyc is bad, missing out on the 15% exp bonus is a severe penalty. The problem is not levellin your main skills, these come from alone. But other minor and difficult to raise skills you dont use often. Like speech, which incidentally you will be using alot right after resting, selling all this junk, which raises Speech. Also applies to smithing and enchanting all lose 15%, which is quite a penalty if you dont powerlevel these two, they level quite slowly.

There's no real drawbacks to being a werewolf.

I may have considered curing the lycanthropy if not for disease resistance. A cure disease spell would have been nice.

My Nord never sleeps and uses the Lover Stone, so he's not missing the well-rested bonus.

Vampirism and Lycanthropy would be sort of cool skills. Ie, once you contract the condition, it would appear as a skill and you could level it and add perks into it.

No disease is nice. But my transformation is glitched. Whenever I use it, it never wears off. I never fed. No ring. I ran around for 3 real life hours and still was a werewolf. Turned off the game without saving. Needless to say, I never use it.

A huge bonus for just about any playing style (don't you mages look at me like that) to get out of a rough spot and a virtually non-existent and completely useless downside (who cares if you can't rest properly). Should you do it? YES!!! Vampire on the other hand, is a waste.

Now this is a good idea. Since Morrowind The vampire/werewolf thing has been lame. IMO they just throw it into the game for the players who want it now. Atleast in TES 3, there were quests and factions. Not just run around and drain people's blood in their sleep like it is now.
