Lydia gave me a gift.

So this is something new that I have never seen before, after hundreds of hours of playing and several builds. So on my latest build (around level 6) I had not yet bought Breezehome and I took Lydia out on a couple of Bandit Raid jobs, then released her to run through the start of the companions questline. After running through Dustman's Carin with Farkas, I had enough gold to buy Breezehome and the upgrades, so I head into Dragon's Reach where Lydia is standing up at the entrance to the great hall, near the end of the large table. Upon seeing me she randomly says to me... "I am glad we are friends, here I got this for you." Then I see the message that a Steel War Axe was added to my inventory. It was really strange as this is the first time I have seen this, I play on the XBOX and recently added the v1.4 update before starting this build. Also, as I was having other issues, I cleared my previous save games and all installed updates of my Hard Drive before I started this build. So I am wondering if the cleanup unlocked something that was originally glitched out, or if this was something new added in the v1.4 update pack. Anyone else encounter this?

Nah, I was getting gifts from my friends in the game before 1.4. It may have helped that you cleared the old stuff though, because from what I understand the scripts just get jumbled or the game will just act funny when the new updates are added to the old.

Everytime there is an update, I clear everything out, except my save files because those should be safe unless you know they are corrupted. As a general rule, it's called clearing the cache btw, it's always best to do this, as it will clear out the bugs that were there previous that are now fixed, and that there won't be any greater chance that your game will get screwy. Once I have it all cleared out and the new stuff is applied, I save it and close out the entire game then restart it. I also will wait about 5 minutes before moving so that the scripts have all had a chance to run.

I am on the PS3, might be a little overkill to do, but it's just what I found to be a good way to ensure a good play session with a new update.

EDIT: Clearing the old game data files is done on the dashboard or the xbox menu, then I start a game and save it, then close it out and start up the game again with the save file. I wanted to clear that up, because after I read it again I confused myself, lol.

This has happened to me a few times, and definitely before path 1.4. I don't think I've ever gotten anything that nice though. I usually get 3-20 gold or a potion.

Oh man, I am so glad it wasn't a disease. >.<

With Bethesda, you never know.

I worked with Lydia for awhile, made her carry all my crap--which she was oh-so-very-enthusiastic about. She has shown her gratitude now by lounging around my room--my room, not her own!--and being generally snotty whenever I come home
"Can I help you with something?" "You look lost." "Hey, watch it!" (when I pick something up, not when I run into her!) and other verbal variations of implication that I am a either a stranger in my own house, or a bumbling idiot. Its like she thinks she got the house in a divorce.

Needless to say, she has never given me anything but grief. A rare admission that I'm a Thane, not much more.

I moved to Markarth, took Janessa as a Companion, and we are all much happier about this arrangement.

How do you clear the PS3 version?

I've been getting gifts since I started playing the game in December.
Nothing valuable though. Gerdur, cheapskate that she is, gave me a ragged cap.

Yeah, Farengar gave me some ragged robes. Considering I was a warrior in heavy armour I wasn't impressed with my gift. Now Lydia gave me a steel mace, which is a more appropriate gift.
