Lydia, if you don't keep up, I'm going to leave you somewher

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 3:23 am

There's a quest that requires you to sacrifice a follower. That what I meant.

That's what I thought; this character isn't going through the Daedric quests, however. Maybe next time.

Blades Training + Enchanted Daedric Armor + Daedric Weaponry + Sanquine Rose + Destruction Staves + Derkeethus = Follower that can take down Frost Dragons on his own (Without falling to his knees) and never dies.

Except he's a thief, right? My current character isn't a thief and doesn't like them.

Lydia is the follower strictly for unimaginitive noobs. There are far better, much better looking, more competent, and less whiny followers available. :talk:

Please don't take this post seriously. I'm not seriously judging anyone's choice of follower.

NOOB???! WHY YOU WHIPPERSNAPPER! I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW I WAS PLAYING SPACE INVADERS AT THE ARCADE BACK WHEN DISCO WAS STILL A THING!!!

Try one of the other followers, the mercs or the "friends". They seem to be much better at following than the house karls. I don't know why, I would assume they use the same AI but it does seem to be the case.

My favorite follower is Annekke Crag-Jumper from Darkwater Crossing. She doesn't always keep up but she is impossible to lose, she always finds her way to me. And she favours the bow eh, so she stands back and shoots and gets in the way less. I've geared her out with anything that does extra bow damage and she's quite a worthwhile companion.

Ah, but do the non-housecarl followers carry loot for you?

This post made me laugh.

Mission accomplished then.

The first time Lydia died, I mourned. The next dozen times, I partied on the inside.

Just can't bring myself to let her die. I'm too responsible a Thane, I guess.

Yes. And they're much happier to do so, (Though J'zargo's concerned about how much space he has). And Erik the Slayer's glad to help however he can.

Hmmmm...well, next character, I guess. This one's about close to retirement and he might as well allow Lydia to finish the job since she's been there the whole time. He'll go and take his rather extensive stash of loot and build himself a nice home in the mountain forest and just kick back, drink mead and relax until he finds a wife. Who knows, maybe Lydia will carry that burden as well...

I don't trust J'zargo. He tried to kill me with those stupid scrolls of his.

And I will say this for Cicero he doesn't appear to walk into rocks from traps and complain about it. (And he giggles when I "rearrange" his equipment. It's kind of cute the first 49 or 50 times.)

I decided several PC-games ago that I rather play solo, than with AI companion.

The only companions I take on Skyrim are the ones that I'm forced to take. Like having to go with someone to a cave, or releasing a trapped NPC and escorting to a city. I still remember the quest about going with a guy to a cave to get a tree... what a nightmare. I think I never loaded my game so many times in one trip.

Yeah. The bugger kept crawling right up my ass, everytime i'd stop. I was riding my horse along a narrow cliffside trail, and stopped on the edge to admire the view, and he of course jammed right into me and came --><-- that close to pushing me off the cliff. How is it that a little putz of a guy can shove a 1-ton horse and it's rider 4 feet forward just by bumping into them?

new vegas companions, as a system, dominates skyrim.

it's not even worth putting this game in their category.
Just imagine boone from new Vegas in skyrim in his heavy armor and his greatsword attacking enemies by your side...ahhhh

I'd rather have Lydia trailing miles behind me than have that damn dog constantly stepping on my toes and barking his fool head off.

Mercurio has been sent home. He can run a store, make some money, and cook for me once in a while. So tired of him jumping in front of my shots AND using his stupid L-Bolts and blowing targets to who knows where. I don't know how much loot I've lost because he's blown them to who knows where.

Running with Janessa now. So far not to impressed. She still jumps in front, but not as bad. Her problem is not following me. She will simply stop and not follow. I have to fast travel to get her back. Thus far Aranea is my fav. Unfortunately this character is going to turn the star black, so no Aranea. This character, though an amoral necromancer, hates Daedra.

Lydia wasn't bad compred to Mjoll the Lioness. I don't think Mjoll is as good in combat, and more importantly, she never shuts the ^*%£ up! Every couple of minutes, I get to hear a female version of Arnold repeating one of her 4 whimsical observations on life. I think I shall visit Boethia very soon....

lydia must be the most stupid follower ever.

i got the mage from azuras shrine and shes just a perfect follower for my tankwarrior. i run where ever i want and she always finds back to me and since she a mage with alteration, i don't have to give her any items.

btw. i can't confirm the friendly fire thing. my healthbar barely moves when i'm eating one of her fireballs and i am definitely not having too much natural magic resistence, since enemy mages hurt a lot.

edit: warriors seem to have the biggest ai-problems to me... archer followers are sadly bugged. always use this stupid standard bow they have equipt. removing all items and so on doesn't help. magefollower <3

I like giving Derkeethus a lot of Destruction Staves and Paralyze Staves. He duel wields them and spams them a lot. Giving Staves to your followers is prolly a smart thing to do. As for above, who cares about their bows. Some Archers have excellent aim and saved my life via ranging.

I wish they were more like Fallout 3 companions, where they would actually have personality and were actually quite decent in combat. I used her for a while, just for the Role playing aspects, but thats it
These comparisons just kill me. The companions in Skyrim DO have personalities, and are about on the level with Fallout 3. How much deep discussion do you get into with Charon or Jericho? It's just that the housecarls are there to carry your burdens, and you're not going to get much more out of them than that. Branch out a little.

Personality eh? Right, Cicero has quite the 'colorful' personality.

I stand by my conjuration skills and not followers, never had much use for them. That and everytime they die my first thought is 'Now how am I gonna get their armor back to a pawnshop?'

Use Derkeethus if you don't want a follower to die. He can never die. I do love Conjuration as well but think about this. Two People in Daedric Armor + 3 Summoned Dremora Lords VS A group of Bandits.

That's highly unfair to the bandits imo, i mean some of those guys are one job away from paying off their bounty! thats just cruel.

Joking aside, you're right I just get annoyed when they die and I have to either reload a save or drag their armor with me and either pawn it or give it to someone else to use. The only companion I used, briefly, was Erik the Slayer.

"Now she just seems to run into my horse's *rse no matter how far she has had to run to catch up."

You are on a horse, Lydia has to run in battle tank kit all over the world just to follow you. Reverse the positions and you would be so tired at the end of the run you would crash into the back of the horse each time. Poor your Lydia.

With consideration, Lydia is a great follower. She may not have your acrobatic ability to climb over rocks. She may like to stop and smell the Mountain Flowers sometimes. She definitely has taken to the smell and feel of barbecuing dragon, standing very close in the fires post dragon killing. Maybe she likes the warmth.

I do not like the jump in front when i am about to unleash an arrow, but the kit I made for her keeps her alive after the arrow strike (lucky her).

*TIC* on. Some folk have no consideration for their slave folk. *TIC* off

Lydia, a simple lass
Merely thinks you have no class
For your treasonous strike
Is something she does not like
Next time, give her something nice
Or you will pay a minor price

That little "sworn to carry your burdens" line she always blurts out is the reason that she is now locked thousands of feet underground in an ancient nordic ruin full of draugr, spiders, skeevers, ghosts and tons of deadly traps of varrying shapes sizes that she is to stupid to avoid...........................maybe I overdid it a little....

im lvl 7 atm moment and i use lydia to distract mammoths while i set them ablaze and chop at their ankles.. she takes quite a bit of damge before i need to roll solo.. shes a few fries short of a happy meal when it comes to following me and always seems to know when im about to set someone on fire cuz she always runs right into it. def looking forward to a better more sensible follower. maybe the bow guy cuz i hack and cast. sounds like a better combo.
