Is having the ability to knife worth using them? Or am I better off with an SMG as a secondary (Using Medium body type)?

Better off with an SMG

The MP works well as a backup gun, its able to take down a person on its own if you find yourself in a bad spot, maybe a couple if youre good with the knife. The magazine (even the extended magazine) is just too small to be a reliable gun.

The SMGs on the other hand are compareable to ARs in effectiveness, and have lots of ammo to go around.

I suppose if you are a soldier, and dont mind refilling your ammo often, you could make it work, but its going to be a disadvantage reloading after every kill.

If you want to use a pistol, youre better off getting the speed advantages of a light.

If you want to use a knife, go with the sea eagle as your secondary weapon. It does a heck of a lot more damage than the machine pistol and can be used at much longer range.

I will be now using a MP on my Light Soldier, thanks for the advice.

If its not too late, i recommend trying the Kalt... Its not particularly hard hitting, but its accuracy and RoF are staggering, i cant count the number of people i've mowed down with it. Just line those head shots up, because you can, and pull that trigger fast and hard.

MP are more of a finisher, or to get out of a bind, like your in a hot firefight, and you go toe to toe with a guy and your main JUST ran out.... Their ability to kill single targets far exceeds that of the pistol, but pistol range and accuracy can take out multiple people with a single clip with alittle more concentration and setup, not good for toe to toe.... Also, the fact that you can use a knife means you can hammer out some pain too if people get too close. Just empty some rounds into them, and finish it with a knife melee.

For that kind of role, ive had more luck with the Sea Eagle (more power and accuracy and my personal favorite handgun) or Tokmak (higher fire rate; amazingly fast with rapid fire). The only area that I think the Kalt shines is its equip speed. If you accessorize it to maximize equip speed, you can pretty much start shooting the moment you push the weapon switch button.

If you like using pistols, i would suggest getting used to the Sea Eagle. It hits hard, has decent ammo (15 with extended mag), and is accurate. Can drop people with 3-5 shots at most ranges, even faster if you can headshot.

If you get good enough with the sea eagle where you don't miss much, you may want to move up to the Ritchie, but its very unforgiving if you do miss.

Sea eagle is cool, but i felt it had too much kick. The Tokmak just felt funny to me, like its shots wernt connecting. Kalt is my bread and butter, and the fact you can basically insta switch it a hellova perk when your in a tight spot...

the auto-pistols are a decent backup, their only big drawback IMO is they seem to have really low reserve ammo (i think 1 mag in gun, and 2 reserve, and obviously they go through ammo pretty quick).

still, you are much better off with anything in the SMG class.

I use the Hockler (MP7) heavily. It's damage is much better than I thought it would be, so I use the Silencer. As a killing tool It's only any good against Lights, but you can easily finish off a medium or un-buffed Heavy with one in a firefight if you both have to reload - just switch it up and continue to fire! In summary, they make a very good Secondary, and not much else. The Knife feature I don't use much, but when I do it is very effective. Defending the Gate on Container City is easy.... sprint up to hole in the wall, Pepper charge-arming-Soldier with Hockler, melee through the wall for a kill, save the day.

... however, all this is probably only because I'm a Light, and have to use an MP over an SMG as a backup if I want an automatic weapon. If I were a medium character I'd probably take an SMG.

I like the Hockler myself but after a quick tryout with a silencer I went back to the compensator instead. I find it pretty decent weapon in confined spaces and sometimes will use it over my primary as it has a fast takedown if you can get most of the rounds on target, it is also surprisingly accurate over distance when hip fired.
But, if you aren't running as a light then taking an SMG would be a better chioce unless you like to go on a knife frenzy.

I honestly use the sea eagle as my primary weapon (I know you can't but you know what I mean). That offhand knife is quite the deadly weapon in the hands of a skilled light body. I can kill groups of enemies with just the knife and a few rounds of the pistol if I catch them completely off guard from behind.

I luv ma knife. :P

Really depends on how I'm playing. If I'm bring aggressive I'll use the Rapid Fire Tokmak or the MP so I have a quick firing backup for tight spots, if I'm being Defensive I'll use the Sea Eagle or Ritchie (comically awesome Resistance skin) and use them to pick people (or turrets) off at a distance.

If you're particularly aggressive in CQC, the extra damage from the knife melee attack can turn the tables in a fight - rush in firing with MP, then slash the target and they'll usually go down instantly.

If you're NOT doing that, the MP doesn't stand up to the SMGs as a secondary for Mediums.

I use all the pistols, but if you're a medium and contemplating using an MP vs. SMG get an SMG unless the switch speed is a major concern. The MP is not an SMG and shouldn't be used as one because it lacks ammo and power. If you're contemplating taking the MP over another pistol that's a different thing, since clearly you would be looking for a pistol.

The MP should be used as a "finisher" weapon when you run out of ammo on your main and still havnt downed your target. Their quick swap time means you can 99% of the time down them before they can reload or switch to their non pistol type secondary.

For more effective use, use a pistol. Vastly more useful in my book since they have the range, the accuracy, and the very potent ability to just mow people down. I've had massive success when people are too far away for my SMG.... Then again people say i'm stupid good with pistols, so it might be a slightly biased opinion... Thats the cool thing, any weapon can work if it fits how you play...

I just use a Tampa w/ Muzzle Break and Foregrip as a Machine Pistol when I'm playing Medium/Heavy.
