Made a duplicate of the skeleton race, is now invisible.

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 7:51 am

The topic pretty much sums it up, I made a copy of the skeleton race and just checked the "can converse with PC" checkbox, and in game and in the map editor it is invisible. You can still see the glowing eyes, but it is still invisible.

Another thing I noticed is that the skeleton doesn't seem to stay in the place I placed it in the map editor, it is placed a few meters away from where I placed it. Is there a way to stop it moving like that? Iwould prefer them to stop being able to move around entirely, as they move around when they see a dead body.

Any help would be really appreciated!

I apparently am able to make it immobile through clicking the option in the race, this does no solve the invisibility issue, however.

I made another duplicate of the skeleton race, it is still invisible

Have you tried using the console command to make your player Skeleton race? Try it with the original race first though.

How would that help with my problem?

How would that help with my problem?

It would let you test to see both in the same run, loadable at will...

My guess is, something got changed when you made the copy...check to make sure the art file and so on are the same on the original and your copy.

Ah, I see what you mean.

How would I check the art file? I can't see any reference of it in the race properties.

I take it you're creating a new actor with "Race" set to "TalkingSkeletonRace" (or whatever you named your copy of Skeleton race?

I think the art file is set by picking "Skeleton Skin" under "Skin" on the front page of the actor edit window.

If you're trying to instance the race item directly, I don't think that works?

The actor, which is of the edited skeleton race, is invisible. If I set the actor to the normal skeletonrace, it is fine.

When it is the modified skeleton race (which is a duplicate of the normal skeleton race), it is invisible except for the glow of it's eyes.

I just tried to set the skin of the actor in the actor properties to skeleton, that did not work.

Hmn...I haven't worked with Races much...you might try running two editors, and comparing the two side by side, tab by tab, and see if you spot any differences...

I haven't had much luck changing art files...every time I try, it puts me in another folder on my hard drive, and search as I might in the Skyrim folders, I can't find where they stored the *.nif files.

Yeah, it brings you to where all the mods for textures are stored (if they don't archive). All the actual nifs are in the Skyrim.esm, I think

Any help towards a solution is greatly awesome!

also, turns out making a duplicate of another humanoid race and setting the actor to it has the same result with the exception of it is just the head which is visible

Unfortunately, I can only edit cells at home (My work computers' mouse has no scroll wheel, so I can't zoom in the render window) or I'd check it for you...last night, i was still working on my Nemesis...the Node Spell project.

I forget precisely how to fix the issue, but the problem is that your new race is not set as able to use the skin that the skeleton "wears" as his body.

So seek ye first the skin of bones, and the unseen undead shall be made known.

I ran into this just the other day. In your new race window, General Tab, there will be drop down boxes called Morph Race and Armor Race. They are under the area for Size, and starting health, etc... Set each to the original race you copied from. Viola, visibility!

SkeletonRace isn't listed in them?

Nevermind, it is.

yep, this fixed it! you have to make sure the race you are trying to select doesn't have anything selected for those two options as well.
