Mage Hunter Character Help

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 11:52 pm

I am currently playing a ranger/hunter/tribal-esque nord. He wears iron armor and using the sword, axe and bow when enemies are far enough away. He is a werewolf and is a follower of Hircine. Lately he has dabbled in the darker side of Skyrim, recently wiping out a mining village in the Reach while he was hunting (was in beast form), and he is thinking about consorting with some of the more evil Daedric Princes.

My character hates magic, with a passion. He thinks those who wield it are wimps and they should all be put to the sword, he only associates himself with the Daedric Princes because his Dragon Blood, along with his Beast Blood, make him hunger for power.

I want to make him into a Mage Hunter character, I am currently on the quest to get the Spellbreaker, but I'm lost after that.

I was wondering what you guys thought about my idea, and what armor/weapons you think I should use to vanquish those squishy mages (remember! I will be semi-evil, I want darker stuff)

Should I use Alchemy to make poisons? Should I join the Dark Brotherhood?

Thanks for the input guys!

you want to focus on two things:
1. hurting mages as much/quick as possible. Shock is good for this since it damages Magicka as well.
2. protecting yourself from magicka damage. Elemental resist and Magicka resist will help.

Use alchemy for magicka damaging poisons.
Use enchant to enchant your gear with resist element/magicka, or buy up any piece with those resists you can if enchanting is to magicy for you.
Use/enchant weapons with Shock or direct Magicka damage
Join the DB if you want to be evil.
You can get spell resist from the Shield tree (alteration tree as well, but that's useless to you)
One of the Standing Stones (The LOrd IIRC) offers 25% spell resist as well.

Antroch Stone gives spell absorbtion, (alteration tree perk gives it also, but sounds out of character).

Magic resists are also easy to get up to cap.

My Breton has 80% absorb and 85% magic resists, so I just laugh when I see a mage, than introduce them to my warhammer.

Seems to me that most mage NPC have unlimited mana. I don't think it is possible to actualy drain them of it.

I agree, artifiacts are okay, but I would never enchant my own gear. I haven't decided whether or not to buy magic items.

Does anyone have any opinions for what armor/bows/swords/axes I should use?

I think it would be kinda hard to do DB without using a sneak character. Whta do you guys think?

Mace of Molag Bal - Seriously, it has a nice effect, does pretty good damage, and soul traps things as an added perk, giving you more juice to recharge it. Bonus points if you get Black Soulgems to trap the souls of your foes, and deny them Sovngarde.

Ebony Blade (if you can stand its weirdness)

Ebony Mail might be a good choice, or learn to smith and make yourself some Ebony Armor for that 'I'm going to crush your skull and there's nothing you can do about it' look.

The Black Star - Be sure to cave in the skull of everyone who knows about it afterwards.

As for Bows...I'd say a Legendary Ebony Bow would do just fine for you.

Thanks a lot! Thats what I was planning on doing, though I aready have Azura's Star, and I don't plan on using it. (My character doesn't like magic)

Ebony Blade would be cool but I'm into one handed at the moment. The most evil sword I can probably get is an ebony or daedric sword

Is there any place I can find just a regular black hood? I wish I could get one, it would just make my character work
