Mage Robe Choices

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:53 pm

Does anybody else think there is a serious lack of Robes in this game? Especially non-enchanted robes. There's Blue/Black/Monk Robes, Hooded Robe variations of the three, and then there's College Robes (the lame looking ones, not the Novice/Adept/Master/etc type ones)

I was really hoping to have a nice looking mage in my self-enchanted robes, but there's almost no variety to choose from. All the robes look really boring and bland. I do hope they add more in an update or perhaps DLC.

Does anybody else agree/disagree? Also, before you say it, I refuse to use Light/Heavy Armor on my pure mage character. It just doesn't feel right to use them in an RP aspect.

Edit: I actually like how the Dark Brotherhood Robes, Novice/Apprentice/Adept/Expert/Master Robes, Mythic Dawn Robes, and Arch-Mage Robes look, however. It's a shame there are no un-enchanted versions of any of them.

Forgot the DB robes and the Thalmor robes. Unfortunately those are already enchanted. I agree there aren't many options for self enchanted robes. I just went with the Archmage robes because the enchants on them are nice enough. With all my other double enchanted stuff they are just fine. But I know what you mean. I tried to find a good one but all of them are so plain or just ugly or already enchanted.

If I remember correctly there is an unenchanted thalmor robe in the Thalmor Embassy. Don't quote me but I thought I saw one. Hopefully I'm right. :P

Blue/black robes
Hooded blue/black
Blue/black Mage robes
College robes
Novice/apprentice/adept/expert/master robes of school
Arch-Mages robes
Necromancers robes
Monk robes
Hooded monk robes
Thalmor
Hooded Thalmor
The robes the Vaermina worshippers wear.

Those are the ones I can think of. Not a bad selection, but it'd be cool if we could have more unenchanted ones. Also an unhooded version of the Arch-Mages robes - it exists in-game (one of the people in the Hall of Valor wears them) but we can't obtain them.

I love having heaps of variety. That means I'd like heaps more robes (that look different) and unenchanted versions as well (even though I haven't tried enchanting).

Yh. I agree. I've got this with my Breton. I have her in black robes with a green cowl. There is also a green clothes that I like but I've only got the one with the built in hood so figure that it is one less item to enchant.

We have Hammerfell garb. It'll be nice to have a green coloured High Rock robes for that Celtic druid / wizard look.

I rather like some of the clothes better than robes. They are all unenchanted and robes have no AR anyway. I have never been fond of robs in the first place, really.

Red and green robes are coded into the game but, unfortunately, unavailable if not via console commands or the editor.

All the 'monk' robes are based around a single mesh with or without the hood: only the texture changes

Same for the novice/adept/expert/master robes used by college wizards. Same basic mesh (with 2 variations) and different textures

why does every sentence with a thread complaining about Skyrim start with "does anybody else think"?

seriously, at this point it should be considered a banned OP question.

The Black/Blue robes have the same mesh with different textures.

Of the three unique robe meshes (Greybeard, Thalmor, Psijic), only one is attainable. The Archmage robes look like a poncho. The Shrouded Robes don't even look like robes; a far cry from the Black Hand raiment from Oblivion.

The lack of unique robes for mages is rather painful.

They're horrible.

They look like some of those 'fancy' clothes people were wearing in the discos during the 70s

There is a large selection of non-armour clothes/robes to choose from, its the absurd lack of gloves available that annoyed me - there the bog standard brown gloves, thalmor gloves and mythic dawn gloves I think that is all, a whopping 3 choices of gloves compared to over 30 clothing choices.

One of the ways in which Skyrim dissapoints is its profound lack of variety in clothing.
It also really does not help that pants and shirts are merged, this is an unfathomable design decision.

I just want the variety of clothing that Daggerfall had back.

Seconded. My Altmer mage wears the Vaermina robes with a Gold and Emerald circlet, looking totally boss. Also, sometimes Noble Clothes (found in East Empire warehouse near Solitude), when she's feeling really High-Elf-and-Mighty.

Of course, even if we had a large variety of unenchanted robes, the robe enchant is broken, so you can't craft any reduction/+magicka gear as good as what you've already found by level 20 (the fortify school +magicka regen is fixed at 5% and 10% regardless of perks and gems used).

It's funny too cause the Archmage robes are 1 of the few items in the game you can't surpass with self enchants.

You simply can't get that much benefit out of self enchanted robes... Not without resorting to enchant/alchemy BS at any rate. Best you can get I believe is like +60 Magicka (actually 10 more than it gives you) and +60% Magicka Regen.... (40% less)

The REAL gotcha though... is the -15% to ALL schools of magic. You can slap 2 25% school enchant's on... and even gear yourself to cast 2 schools for free... but if you want to be a PURE mage, who uses all their magic at their disposal, that -15% to ALL schools is a GREAT Boon and simply unachievable in any way shape or form on a single piece of equipment.

Besides the unenchanted robes simply being somewhat boring and plain, there's no good reason to use anything BUT the archmage robes anyways.... and actually, I don't really care for the hood much so I'm kinda a sad panda with my mage :(

I've actually taken to having her carry a set of "town clothes" which I'll be keeping up to date (obviously having to buy replacements to upgrade) with enchantments appropriate for in town (barter bonus, smithing/alchemy, carry weight, stamina, and maybe lockpicking with left over though prolly just a dedicated set of ring + gloves.

Go here - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=12655 - and after a quick bit of enchanting, your troubles are over. I wear the earthy brown robes with the deep green hood, and I really like the look and feel of that outfit. I've also recently discovered that Blades armour looks excessively cool with a hood instead of a helmet, but I was just trying it out - I too do not wear armour, for RP reasons.

Also, a salute to Boog for his glove rant. Is a simple pair of black gloves really THAT unreasonable a request?

Totally agree! The robe options were fairly limited in Oblivion, but even more limited in Skyrim. Maybe we will get some with the DLC. Shivering Isles added a bunch of new robes to Oblivion.

Really wish you could enchant necromancer robes in Skyrim like you could in Oblivion. I had decided to settle for plain black when I found the Vaermina robes which can be enchanted.

I agree. I just wish the Archmages robes were not so furry. I don't particularly like the look of them. But I like the 15% in multiple schools they offer. I am not that in to free casting.

Shame there's no hood for that robe though, I like it.

Honestly, they (Bethesda) could take a few of the currently existing mage robes and clothing, photoshop the textures to alter the colors, and release them as a part of a patch and get the adoration of the skyrim community with very little work involved.
