Mages College Help (spoilers) : V

I've just completed the quest where you have to [spoiler] find the Cyrodill mages, and Anaco, or whatever his name is, is messing around with the Eye of Magnus. I found the Arch-Mage dead and got the hint to Labrynthian (that can't be opened yet). [\spoiler] But now what? No-one is giving me a new quest or anything? Anyone got any ideas?

If it helps, a dragon attacked as I was [spolier] searching for the Arch-mage. [\spoiler]

did you protect the town? not from the dragon but from another 'infestation'?

Yeah, only 1 guard was killed. It was the middle of the night anyway, so no one was outside.

I recall receiving some sort of necklace from Arwen Savos that allowed me to enter a particular front door at the site you mentioned.

how many of the infestation did you kill? if you killed all 10 then go find mirabelle. if not:

There is a possible bug where one of the anomalies will not appear and is likely under the world or in a wall, and you may find that it has fallen to the bottom of the cliff near the city. Fast traveling back to the town has been known to work.

I did this chain last night, but I may have some of the details wrong or out of order.

I think at that point you need to stave off the attack of magical aberations that are attacking Winterhold (the city across the bridge from the college). Try running into town and see if there is anything to fight. At some point you talk to one of the other mages about the Staff of Magnus and they give you an amulet that unlocks Labrynthian. I forget which person it was but it was one of the female mages.

I'm not sure any of that will be helpful and knowing Bethesda I'd certainly be wary of that dragon attack interrupting the normal flow of that questline so if all else fails you might need to recover from a prior save.

Aberations? None of them are appearing. I went outside the Hall of the Elements, after Mirabelle told me to start looking, the dragon attacks, and that's it. Might have to reload to earlier <_<

did you run all the way down into town? that's where they should appear. if they aren't, yes, a previous save is probably your best bet unless you are on pc.

If you run to town from the college, which someone should've told you to do in the first place, then you'll see other mages from the college who need help killing off some anomalies that are attacking the town. After killing all 10 you report back to Mirabelle who then gives you Savos Aren's amulet which unlocks Labyrinthian.

No-one told me to run into town. Mirabelle just said 'go look for the Arch-Mage, then got up and walked out :shrug:

But my last save was 8 hours ago, I'll have to advance the quest through the console, and add the amulet if necessary.

I imagine someone told you in the middle of your dragon fight and you didn't hear or something.

just complete the section you need and mirabelle should give you the amulet to advance it.

It's not working... The quest isn't even showing up in my journal.

hmmm....what's the last thing in your journal about that quest line? it should be somewhere in the 'containment' area of the quest. if not is there anything still there from 'revealing the unseen'?

Revealing the Unseen is marked as completed, but Containment doesn't appear anywhere.

have you just tried setting it to complete or even starting it?

try these 1 at a time in order till something kicks loose and you get regular updates:

setstage MG05 10

if that doesn't start 'containment' try:

setstage MG05 50

if that doesn't kick anything free try:

setstage MG05 200

Other console commands seem to work fine, so I'll try just adding the amu8let through that and skipping Containment

It may be that I acidentally hit tab when talking to Mirabelle after the explosion, and that broke the quest. I can't remember if I did or not. Thanks for all you help anyway guys.

ya, if you've scrolled through all of Tolfdir and Mirabelle's conversation topics that's about all you can do.
