Mages... Share your must have hot keys.

Ok. As title asks.... You are about to do battle with a Dragon Priest, and a bunch of baddies, what is your process of destruction and complete defense while owning your opponents? What do you have as " must have" hot keys?

I'm a PS3 player, so no hot keys for me. However, I recently fought Morokei, so this is how I handled it ...

1. Conjure a flame atronach - the distance means that your atronach is less likely to fall victim to Morokei, who can turn atronachs against those who conjured them.
2. Throw fireballs at him.
3. Realizing that nothing is working, Wabbajack him until he turns into a pile of gold coins.
4. Freak out when you realize that you have no soul gems left and your wabbajack is out of charge. Run to the College to buy soul gems.

Rinse and repeat for the other 7 dragon priests! :)

If you like mages take a look of a little video ive done http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-ngIvClc9U im on master fighting some draugr everywhere hope it will help you. To fight dragon priest use simply heavy bariier and light storm or fire as draugr are all vulnerable to fire.

As a PS3 player, I only have two hotkeys, and what I put depends on my current playstyle.

Most of the time, I have a healing spell on left on the D-pad and an AOE Destruction spell at my right. If my mage uses Alteration (my current one doesn't), I'll have an armor spell at my left instead for combat, and when exploring, I'll keep a light spell there.

I'd never put Conjuration spells on hotkey given their long duration; they don't need to be constantly and quickly assigned. If I want to be defensive, I can have a ward on my left, a staff, or a wall spell from Destruction, but I pretty much always have an offensive Destruction spell on my right.

The video is fine and dandy, but it really has nothing to do with the thread

I have a Bound Bow in one hand and Conjure Flame Atronach in the other. Naturally, I conjure first.

I recently began to really get into my mage/werewolf character, and I prefer to maximize my spell's effect, so I always need to duel wield the same spell in both hands. So when I press my hotkey I have to press it twice so it actually works for both hands, and I don't remember if I have to unequip my shield for it to work properly. I really wish you could set both the left and right mouse/trigger to a single hotkey. If there's a way to do this ingame or perhaps a mod that fixes this please let me know.

Anyways, I always first cast dragonskin, then ebonyflesh, and then transform before entering just about ever encounter. so 1, 1, 2, 2, and 3. I also started playing with telekenisis as a gravity gun, but the damage it deals is little to nothing so it's useless as hell unless you're a thief. Paralyze is once again my all time favorite spell so it's my 4th hotkey. An alternative to fear/calm/chaos illusion spells.

I take it you're a conjurer :)

As stated above, I certainly see no use in putting Conjuration spells on hotkey, but can you tell me about why the Bound Bow appeals to you?

^Infinite arrows is the only thing I can think of. Also it looks cool and it's great for lower levels I guess, being *daedric tier.

*Slightly weaker than daedric

With Mystic Binding the Bound Bow is actually equivalent to an Exquisite tier daedric bow. For a character that does absolutely no smithing (like mine) the bound bow is the best he could hope to get. Also, never upgrading stamina and having a low carry limit, it's nice having a weightless weapon I don't have to lug around. Also, as was stated previously, infinite *daedric* arrows. Furthermore, the bound bow fires absurdly fast, presumably because it's weightless. My Necro/Archer is lvl 40, still using a poisoned bound bow, and I don't expect that to change.

Edit: As to hotkeys, I've got Conjure Dremora Lord on one hotkey, Bound bow on the other. (I play on Xbox) Dualcast Dremora, flip over to Bound bow, single cast. Dualcast Dremora lasts about the same time as single cast Bound Bow.

My generally universally effective "go-to" tactic is to throw down a Wall of Fire and Storms, Become Ethereal, and then stand in it. The enemies kill themselves for me.

Sure it did. It showed how the hotkey system is an epic fail, as he mainly just scrolled through the Fav list. Contrary to how you may like to see yourself, other people have valid and interesting views. You seem to be rather judgmental of others. Especially when it comes to Mages.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I was on the Xbox, and limited to 2 hotkeys, I usually kept a weapon or an offensive spell in the right hand. Pending the character, this was usually a sword, or some type of Conjured weapon or Dremora. I then used the 2 hotheys to swap out the left hand. This would usually be something defensive, like Mage Armor, Invisibility, or Healing. Although, I rarely used Healing.

I guess my most used combination was, weapon - rt hand and Invisibility (1) Dead Thrall (2).

Out of 12 characters, 5 have been mages, 4 of those were Vamps and ALL were Conjurer Illusionists.

However, due to the broken and limited hotkey system, I usually just opted to scroll the Fav list. Like the gentleman that presented us with that video. Thank you. That was a great job.
