Magic regen rate bugged?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 10:38 am

Why does magic regen rate slow during battle if no one is casting any magic or using poison against me? Was this another anti-mage design by beth or just a bug that needs to be addressed? I notice as soon as i kill the last foe my magic regens rapidly but not during battle

Because Bethesda wanted the "equal state for all encounters" of popamole FPSes but didn't want mages to have infinite magicka.

During combat magic regen is supposed to be slower so its working as intended.

that's lame, why should magic regen slow during battle? Mages are underpowered already, why steal their life blood in battle...in that respect then fighters stamina regen should slow as well.

I swear beth is as anti mage as the nord denizens of skyrim...the mage is a 2nd class citizen.

oh and i'm wearing robes btw with both recovery perks unlocked

Magicka generates at 1/3 rate in combat. Check the wiki.

Think of it this way... regen rate is normal for combat and abnormal for non-combat situations.

This way it's not a PITA to use magic when you're just screwin' around.

Or, as your stress level increases, your ability to regain mana decreases.

It's the bad karma eminating from your foes hostile thoughts upsetting your aura - slows down magicka regen don't ya know.

I think neither stamina nor magicka should be nerfed in combat really. I think if you're moving or swinging an axe then of course stamina will suffer. Equally flinging spells around would be the same. However standing perfectly still when no one is around vs. standing perfectly still / hidden when someone is out to get you shouldn't really have any effect.

It's a shame as it makes magicka / stamina buff that increase your overall pool far far more valuable than any recharge. I found this out with my mage who had lots of recharge type buffs that accounted for nothing in combat. Switching these (250%+ recharge rate) for just another 120 in the pool made a huge difference.

Yeah, as mentioned, stamina does regen slower in combat. But as a warrior you can still attack when you're out of stamina, mages can't. I think to be fair mages should get their own version of a power attack, with basic attacks either not depleting magicka, or depleting so little that regen makes up for it.

Oh really good to know, I was always wondering how come it was always running out even if I was wearing stuff that made it regenerate up to 125% faster. Luckily I am not mainly a mage, but this really svcks.

But now that you mentioned it :)

Yes it's true. Bethesda hates mages.

unfortunately i am a mage and playing on xbox so no "fixes" for me.
I just don't understand the logic behind slowed regen rate in combat, that's when you need your magicka the most...i guess they want to make potions useful in combat but i hate to have to resort to them after a few spells and waste all that inventory space. Destruction is already underpowered, the least they can do to compensate at higher lvls is to let us cast away
