Magic in Skyrim is underpowered

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 8:43 pm

I do agree that magic in and of itself isn't reallly underpowered, but destruction is what is a bit lacking. Spells overall, as well as a lack diversity is a real problem...especially if we can't have spell creation back.

Is this a basic foundation for a new magic system? I don't know, but Bethesda sure as hell needs to tweak it some, if we can't have spell creation back, then at the very least we need more spells, and better scaling for our spells.

This ^ yeah we have 15-20 spells per school but 14 -15 of those are just stronger versions of the same spell so in reality we have about 5 or 6 spells tops per school bar conjuration but it seriously lacks diversity , I seriously hate the mana cost as being a mage is near unplayable without

A) enchanting
B) using alteration so you can wear arch mage gear without dying and getting + 50% regen in resto

I deleted my mage as he was boring as hell due to the lack of spells , illusion is my favourite but it got boring cus their was 4 spells , im not counting muffle ... the perks for the magic are all great but they seriously need to include way more spells , i can only play a mage now with no enchants , heavy armor and block with destro to keep it interesting.

I hope they bring back spellcrafting or there is a mod for it because flaming familiar is waaaay to awesome not to use but it does crappy damage :(

I also wish Destruction was a little better. I like chaining streams of lightning from my hands, but it doesn't do a whole lot at level 50

Dear devs:
As you can see threads like this emerge every day. DESTRUCTION svckS, NOT HAVING SPELLMAKIN svckS, its a fact.
I hope this problem will be fixed like the smithing abuse in the past , it wasnt too urgent how unbalanced and cutted magic are.

I would like to have spellmaking back as well, but I could live without it if beth would give us a more diverse pool of spells.

Bethesda reallys need to bring back some of the spells that were removed from Skyrim, that were in previous games. Mods have accompished some of this, so why can't you, Bethesda? :stare:

The problem is your approach. Magic isn't like picking up a stick and hitting things, or shooting things with an arrow--those things are very, very direct. With magic you have to approach your enemies laterally. I realize this is counter-intuitive. When you learn the schools' strengths and weaknesses you can create some interesting synergies.

When played correctly, mages are easy and fun.

I disagree, OP. If one uses dual-cast thunderbolt with -100% destruction enchantments along with the impact perk, it is the most surefire way to kill enemies, even better than Windshear.

I do agree, however, than master-level spells need to be much more powerfull and leave us less vulnerable while taking time to cast.
