Main quest Ending? Really? (spoilers)

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 6:28 pm

Uhh I've beaten all the TES games going back to Arena in 1994 and this was by FAR the worst ending. I stood around on the throat of the world waiting for something, and nothing happened. I even had to check youtube to see if my ending was glitched or something.

No ending cinematic end credtis or anything to let you know you really beat the main quest
No epic unique music in the last battle
No actual reward after beating Alduin, unique weapon, unique armor etc.
The world barely seems to notice what you've done

Was it because the game was rushed or what? While the endings of previous games were,t all that great they at least presented some to you that felt like closure. This ending was not even really an ending, some of the endings of the lesser quest lines were more interesting.

Can they give us a DLC that really finishes the game and give us an awesome ending?

Please do not post Spoilers in General.

People come to General to learn about the game without learning about what happens in the game. If they want to know about what happens, that is what the Cheats, Hints and Spoilers section is for.

Do not use quest details or location specific details related to quests/puzzles/NPCs in your posts in this section. General is for discussing gameplay and mechanics and general topics about the the game including but not limited to races, items and their use, magic, enchanting, skills, character builds, criticism, praise, funny random things that happen, places from an esthetic standpoint and and other general topics.

Use the Spoilers Section if you have to post quest details or other spoilers or a thread about the same. I will move this now.

You didn't stick around to see the dragon show, did you? I thought it was pretty epic. Then talking to Paarthurnax and Odahviing was nice resolution.

I was hoping there would be dialogue from Ulfric, so that was disappointing, but otherwise I thought the ending was great.

Im just glad I was allowed to fight the main boss then watch someone else do the entire battle like in oblivion. That was extremely disappointing to me from the last game.

Yea I watched it but it didn't seem to be a big deal, the whole ending did not feel like a main quest ending, seriously I was puzzled about it to the point I watched some you tube videos to make sure I did it right. The last battle was hardly epic at all I had a battle with a briar heart that was alot tougher then Alduin. All around it just did not feel like an ending at all even given the previous quest endings and previous battles in the game.

So the Call of Valor shout and the summoning a dragon friend don't count as rewards?

Not really no, it would have been nice if Alduin had left some unique bones to create some awesome armor or weapons. They could have made a whole quest-line off of creating armor and weapons out of his bones or something like that. Plus the abrupt ending with no cinematics, credits or anything else out of the ordinary was a bummer. Seeing some dragons fly around for a minute or two did not cut it. Plus the world barely notices what you did.

If you haven't honked off the graybeards, go talk to Angenier. It's a little something.......

But yeah, the game just seems to stop, doesn't it? Guess someone forgot to read that psych 101 chapter about cause and effect, rewarding for a maze well run, that sort of thing......

I absolutely agree with the OP... It was a 'WTF' moment for me as well but I was too confused at the moment because of all the guilt I felt for
Spoiler
killing Paarthurnax
At least common people in the streets now greet me with awe. :/

I liked the part where I killed Alduin in 4 hits while taking no damage because he was distracted by three dead heroes, who couldn't even scratch him when they were still alive and in their prime.

Yeah, the ending was kinda bummer. I didn't feel that it was an ending, rather just a start of another quest (like the way it has always been up to that point)

Martin taking all the credits was kinda bummer, but at least Oblivion gave us a definite "well done! You've completed MQ!" with a touching movie.

I got to the ending last Thursday, and I have to say that the journey getting to the ending was and will always be worth more in the end. I made a topic last Thursday or so, in which it seemed sad and uplifting at the same time listening to Paarthurnax talking about his dead brother, as you stand their on the Throat of the World with the dragons circling above... the snow was blowing really hard, and the skies were grey and beautiful, and I climbed to the top of the Throat of the World to where the Notched Pickaxe is and stood there, looking out over the world and generally feeling very sad and happy that the Main Quest had ended. It was an epic ending to me, a monumental ending, and one that many people don't stop to think about.

On another note, if you had had no help and had to fight Alduin yourself... people would be complaining about that, no? You got to go to a place that no living mortal ever sees, and you got to kill the World Eater and save the souls of countless people in Sovngarde. That, the shout for Odavhiig, and the Call of Valor shout were good, as well as the Mask for the dragon priest and the slaughtering of four dragons on my way to the end battle.

Well I loved that part, with Paarthurnax and the other dragons discussing what had happened, then the dragons circling in a kind of homage, and the resolution with Paarth. I thought it was all over, then Odahviing lands and says "I wish the old one luck on his quest." Ah Odahviing. Ever the cynic. When he then said he would come for me if I called, I got misty eyed.

So yeah, I thought it was pretty epic and touching at the same time. Then I went down to High Hrothgar and no one was around. I figured they'd all committed thu'um hara kiri or something. Nope, they're in the meeting room, and they acknowledge what you did and Arngeir gives his bit of advice on not letting it go to your head. Perfect.

Like I said, the only thing I was wishing for was some resolution dialogue with Ulfric (since I was a Stormcloak officer by then).

Ah, I forgot about that. It was kinda awesome. At least people know who kicked whose butt before the guy blew everything.

In Skyrim, all you get is a crappy Nord summon and a non-ridable dragon. As if at that point you're still weak
