Make "ammunition" a separate inventory section

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 8:14 am

I'm sure that I'm not the only one who pick up as many arrows as you can while looting. Looting arrows will eventually lead to that you have many arrows of many different variations, and they all fall under the "weapon" item category. I believe I'm not alone when I'm saying that it can get annoying to have your entire "weapon" category filled up with arrows.

Dawnguard will add crossbows. As you may know, crossbows don't fire arrows, they fire a different projectile called "bolts". The DG trailer shows that the bolts will be placed at the lower back of the character, and we can therefor assume that DG crossbows will not use the same arrows as the bows.

Considering that the weapon inventory category is already annoying with all arrows, imagine the madness if we add all sorts of bolts as well.

To prevent this, and to make the inventory a lot more organized, I propose that Bethesda adds a new subcategory to the inventory where we place our ammunition/projectiles.

it would be a nice small improvement to help keep everything organised a bit more.. and if you im#agine now having all the old -and possibly new- types of arrow plus all the bolts, that will take up alot of space.

Exactly. It can't be that hard to make such a small improvement if we compare it to e.g. mounted combat.

Why?

Granted I'm not a "pure archer" or whatever, but I do use a bow. I just carry the most powerful arrows I have on hand and leave the rest in a box at home I use for all my "adventuring gear." When those run out I return to aforementioned box and grab the next tier of arrows. I'm level 30 and still using steel arrows. I have about 40 orcish arrows saved up from random looting so I might force myself to switch to those soon.

Once again I don't go through arrows very quickly (obviously--see above), but seriously provided you have like 80+ arrows on hand just use those till they run out or else buy a stack of 50 better arrows if you want better arrows here and now. I really don't see the point in have an ammunition category. And I really REALLY don't see the point in carrying around as many kinds of arrows as you appear to.

I use SkyUI and it's just fine all in one category. Especially since I don't carry around 10 different weapons, it's not too hard to find what I'm looking for.

I do agree the inventory system does need a re-vamp but i think if you were a bow you wouldn't use a crossbow aswell

well you might do, variety is the spice of life, and it also appears changing what pointy object you stick through someones spleen is aswel .. but i digress,
I know it's not exactly "essential" but to put all arrows in one section instead of with weapon is just a handy way of organising things, considering in one of my lets look around galavant type things you can normally pick up a good few different types of arrows it would simply be less clutter.
Falmer Arrows, Forsworn Arrows, Iron Arrows, Steel Arrows, Dwarven Arrows, Orcish Arrows, Ebony Arrows, Daedric Arrows, Elven Arrows, Glass Arrows...
And possibly one or two i might of missed, this adds up to clutter, not too much but more than i'd prefer....

I still dont see why they changed from MW's inventory screen.

If its just clutter to you then do as I do and stick it in a box somewhere and forget about it.
You don't need to carry around 30 different kinds of arrows. You don't USE 30 different kinds of arrows. Chances are you use iron arrows until they become obsolete then you use steel arrows until they become obsolete and then you use orcish or elven arrows until they become obsolete and then you use glass, then ebony, then deadric...etc etc etc...
This is the natural progression of arrows. Stop keeping everything you pick up in your inventory and just dump it off at home.

"Hmm, a dragon..." Shuffles through inventory. "Nahh, I don't really feel like elven arrows for this one. Maybe iron?" Fires a few shots into it. "Damn, damage is no good. Well then how about steel." Fires a few more "Still no good. Alright, take this. Dwarven arrows!!" Dragon says 'meh'
"...Why do I carry around all of these?" Uses elven.

Not really, arrows are usually much longer then a bolt. Like said before stop carrying around everything. My normal running around weight is under 180-190, with some of my characters under 100. Anything I'm not going to use sits in the house. It also just helps so much with menu clutter.

I guess that's true...

But still, I don't think it is a huge thing I'm asking for, just a small thing to make things more organized

I agree that it would be nice, i like having a neat inventory... when it comes to games i like orginization.

Two things with the inventory i would like. Well make it three.

For Consoles, a way to organize from A-Z

An Ammo Catagory

And maybe even the ability to make a catagory of your own, like say you had kits or something. You could make a "Civilian" Kit, which had clothes and all needed for just, when you want to feel like you belong in town, and dont stand out. Or maybe you have a "Dragon Hunting" Kit, that holds all your best stuff, but you don't want to waste there magicka charges or arrows.

It would be a cool little feature. :)

Granted its small, albeit unnecessary. Carry less stuff. Done.
No need for a new category.
I can't think of anything to compare your request to...something small and inconsequential but equally unnecessary because its so small and inconsequential...nothing in-game comes to mind so I'll use a real life example.
"That's my chair."
You know how everyone has their place at the dinner table and everyone has their chair?
Well, does it really matter if you sit somewhere else? Or if someone takes your chair?
If somebody take your chair, guess what? They left their chair open. So you take theirs.
It really doesn't matter, so stop making a big deal out of nothing.

...However they should still make nightvision for Khajit and vampires toggle on/off with an infinite duration instead of this stupid 60 second timer thing....

The only separate inventory tab I would like to see is equipped items. Take them out of the main inventory and put them in their own. I have had several occasions where my mouse moves slightly and I end up selling something I'm using instead of the item above it.

I pick up loads of junk that I get rid of at the vendors to make cash. When I'm done with the vendor, I want to see an empty inventory tab rather than scroll down and realise I missed something that was hiding between my current armor and my current sword. I have to admit, I like the SkyUI for sorting, I can find all my ore, my ingots and such in one place rather than scattered all over the misc tab.

You realize you can turn it on and off right...

Its just you can only leave it on for 60 seconds, but then you can turn it right back on.

This idea is almost as minor as asking for the ability to just think about what you want to wear, and your wearing it... cause im to lazy to put my own clothes on...

And thats exagerating how important a feature this is :P
