Make "hardcoe" hardcoe

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 3:54 am

Is it possible that in any upcomming patch that the amount of ammo that exsists in the world be reduced? as theres never any fear of ever worrying about your last bullet and why do you ever need to buy ammo when you have hundreds of rounds just by finding loot.

On the whole the hardcoe mode has been a lost opportunity i thought it would affect the game more than just mean you have to drink/sleep when prompted. take sleeping for example i thought you would be able to strike camp anywhere of course having to find a safe place to camp otherwise you get attacked but you have to look aroung for a bed even when in hte middle of the wilderness!

same theres alot less struggling to survive in the waste then I imagined, but in a way kind of glad. After all who wants to spend hours just wondering arounf the mojave just looking for food and water? though could deffinitly do with tweeking, sleeping for one I've knoticed you can go for ages without needing sleep, yet in realitygive it a day and you start feeling tired!

Yup, it's pretty casual, as i suspected. Maybe there'll be a FWE mod for New Vegas too? 900 Microfusion Cells are heavy, but i don't understand how i am able to even have that many of them at once in "hardcoe" mode

I find myself shopping for ammo (something I NEVER did FO3 -- in fact, I never bought -anything- in FO3) when I make pit-stops, so it at least encourages SOME bit of balance; that said, I am very early in the game and I only use three ammo types that I gleefully unload in creatures I'm really not supposed to be taking on yet. :)

My problem is with the obscene amount of free containers and beds. There really is just no sense in that at all. I can't even tell I'm playing hardcoe mode except for the fact that my ammo weighs something, because I can't go 10 feet without running into more free supplies.

Instead of forcing a new update on to people they should just add hardcoe Mode +1:
  • All three meters raise 3 times as fast
  • Ammo weight doubled
  • Ammo looting from both NPC's and ammo boxes reduced by half
  • Vendors having 50% as much ammo as they currently have
  • Radiation is doubled or even trippled from everythin. (Casual or norma hardcoe mode give +5 rad from drinking from a radiatied sink, while in HCM+1 you get +15 rad/sec)
  • Healing radiation, crippled limbs or drug withdrawal costs around 500-1000 caps at a doctor.
  • Implants price is trippled
  • Repair costs from repair NPC's costs 50% more

And then hardcoe Mode +2 which does all of above but also does this:
You can't fast-travel from where ever you want to now, you have to be in the vicinity of a town/outpost/city to travel to another town/outpost/city.
But you cannot travel from let's say Abandoned Shack to Vault 22.

This would be completely optional, both options. And would really crank up the difficulty.

if you want to make it hard for yourself ,dont take the ammo.
or did someone put a gun to your head and say "oooooh take the ammo and extra supplies" .
you could make it as hard as you wanted by restricting yourself.

Don't know about that one :/ that would make the game too intense espeacilly with the limbs and you cant get hold of a doctors bag, you would nearly constantly have a crippled body part, and if it's the head it would drive me crazy :banghead: but everything else i agree with, and they should make ammo a lot more scarce, hopefully we will have some DLC for this in the future :)

Challenge yourself by not using VATS at all. You'll spend far more ammunition that way, and the game becomes far more intense. I'm very often at the verge of running out of ammunition, and need to revert to less powerful weapons.

Well it would be hell in the beginning but with my first character I ended up with 40.000 caps.
So I thought that with the over abundance of caps we should have something worth spending them on.
But yeah it would be a little too difficult in the beginning.
Let's say 250 caps for treatment by Doc Mitchell but he can only heal 40% on your limbs.
That's not too pricey right?

Do what I have always done: Turn off crosshairs, ammo suddenly becomes important.

You mean reduce HUD capacity to zero?
Not fun not seeing how much health I have left.

This. While I agree hardcoe Mode should have been more strident in its restrictions, there's nothing stopping me from doing what I did on Fallout 3: restricting myself. I limit what I can carry in terms of Weapons, Ammo, Aid items etc.

 No, that would be stupid. It's an option in Settings, either Gameplay or Display, it makes the crosshairs gone, so you have actually aim.

I'm pretty satisfied with hardcoe modes features... I'm more disappointed that I can't use ovens for campfire crafting, that I can't set a campfire wherever I want, and that the crafting recipes are of such a low re-sale value.

If anyone is playing the PC version, use this mod:
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34759

Usually I hate mods, but this really is a must-have for people who want it realistic.

Oh, didn't know that.

It really makes the game a challenge because nothing turns red to let you know you have a shot, but the health bars and names of NPCs/Items still appear on HUD, so there is no out-of-combat detriment, and I can't imagine playing any other way. Normal/HC, no crosshairs, and a bit of RP makes a mean drink of challenging, immersive gameplay.

Then make it harder by yourself. Crank up the difficulty to vh/hc , turn off crosshairs as been suggested. For ex I don't use Boone , never abuse Stealth Boys or AI pathfinding idiocy, never steal from shops, imho Jury Rigging is just ridiculous . The game is easy enough already , try to roleplay a bit , don't min- max powergame every character, just make some self restrictions and you will have much more fun.

Oh and I suggest deathclaw hunting with shotgun and explosives while wearing sixy nightwear.

I love it, all the opportunities for roleplaying, unhampered by some arbitrary restriction on whose matress I can use.

Why should he have to gimp himself? That makes little sense, he should do what he thinks he would do in the situation, not unrealisticly work to the detriment of his survival.

What's VATS? I recall something by that name in FO3...but NV seems to be a full-on (if still a tad crude and in need of tweaking) first-person shooter. I've used VATS exactly 3 times, and found I can outshoot it hands down. That's as in "By not using VATS, I use far less ammo and never have to revert to a weapon other than my weapon of choice."
