Make quest markers easier to see

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 3:04 pm

I posted this when I first joined, but it didn't get much attention so I figured I'd post it again. How much trouble would it be to change the color of objective points when looking at the map? It would make finding quest locations far easier. It could be like a deep red or blue. Here's an mock example I just created:

How it is now:

How it could be (red):

How it could be (blue):

How it could be (light blue):

It's a small thing, but when you get a lot of locations discovered, it can be a chore to find sometimes and this shouldn't be too hard to patch.

And I thought the floating quests markers were bad enough. What's next, big yellow dots marking the way to the quest location?

Personally I don't even use any HUD at all. It's because of things like these if the series has been dumbed so much over the years. Whatever, just a rant from an old timer, ignore me.

I just want a simple change. A different color for new quest arrows. A color for totally completed quests, and a color for a quest that is not finished but moving to the next step.

i dont use quest arrows but as for the map icon i actually agree. i often move my map to one of the corners till i see the blinking arrow that tells me i have gone to far and then use that find where i need to go. the map just svcks period.

I agree that White against the clouds and snow is not always easy to see on some TVs.

Are there any HUD color change options on the 360 that might also change this? IE it does not say it changes the color of the map marker, but the change to something else makes it happen.

It's not dumbing it down, just making it a little more user friendly. I don't think the game developers wanted the players to spend a lot of time looking at the map to figure out where their quest was

haha! I got rid of mine completely!

I hate them. Totally ruins immersion. Especially when I saw I was not even playing the game but just chasing the triangle in Oblivion- that`s when I gt rid of them.

And I spend all my time looking at the map to get somewhere, just like I do in reality when er.. camping!

Press button- Look at map. press button, out of map. It isn`t hard.

I never said it wasn't hard. I just hate searching for a maker that looks exactly the same as everything else on the map. I want to play the game - not spend more than a couple seconds looking at the map

Honestly, since they exist they should be easy to see. I wish they did not exist. Maybe the NPC should give you a name of a place, or a general area. Maybe some clues and then you have to figure it out. With skyrim there is a lot of hand holding, very little to figure out. I like how in LOZ the highlighted text are hints, they even tell you where to go but don't show you where to go.

Just a thought.

EDIT:
I'd like getting rid of them, but the way the game is now with the horrendous journal, it would be crazy without them. A better journal = quest markers obsolete.

I'm not continuing this argument with you. Skyrim isn't a game about looking for quests on a map. The only reason the map is there is to quickly give you directions and to show you where your quests are and it could be doing the latter so much better than it currently is. Casual players like myself want to spend as little time in the map as possible to maximize the amount we actually get to play the game.

It's because gamers have grown tired of games that implement puzzles into them (I being one of them. They're fun at first, but after ten years of them, they lose their charm and become annoying nuisance). I hate it when games completely kill the pace with a puzzle.

Now Portal, that there's a good puzzle game. It isn't advertised (nor is it) an action game. When a gamer plays a game like Skyrim they expect to get into the action and not be stopped by puzzles (Therefore their mind isn't thinking in a problem solving way) versus a game like Portal where the play goes into it with a mindset that allows them to figure out puzzles.

Thats a decent though. Idk if it would be so bad though if maybe an NPC said x was just south ect of y. IDk. Maybe not puzzles, but just not as completely mindless as it is now. OR if you have discovered a location it would have a marker. But if you have not been to the spot it wont. That would encourage exploration.

To the OP: I am all for it. Beth said they were monitoring the forums for feedback to improve the game. This is their chance to implement such an improvement.

Note to avoid confusion: A custom marker is a marker placed by the user. A quest marker is one generated by the game.

Another simple one. On that map you can place a custom marker. That marker will show up on the compass, but will be hidden by other quest markers if they are roughly in the same location. A simple solution to this problem would be to draw the custom marker last.

Yet another: Each active quest marker should have its own color. This is handy when there are more than one quest markers.

And finally: One should be able to place a custom marker on indoor maps. This is handy in some of the huge locations.

Yes, because Morrowind never held your hand at all, by feeding you tiny bite size chunks of a quest. If you don't use it at all, you have no dog in this fight, so you really just came into the thread to have a little snipe. Thanks for helping turn the forum into snot. Really appreciated. You and everyone else with your stinkingly bad attitudes. I never get sick of seeing trolls trying to take the threads OT with their whinging that Skyrim is [censored] because it's not made according to THEIR exact specifications.

OP, on the Xbox you can select the quest, then use the "X" button to take you to the destination on the map, but yes, I agree with you, I would have liked it to be a different colour.
