Making a dragonborn... (I require advice xD)

Hi, this will be my first post on these forums... So far as a newbie to The Elder Scrolls series I'm throughly enjoying Skyrim... However, I have hit a bit of a bump in the road.

I want my Dragonborn (currently lvl 22) to be a destruction mage... But I also want to be able to decide, between using my destruction magic, and one handed weapons (more likely swords) I just can't get enough of either...

Consequently, I have been investing all my perks into the Destruction school, and the one-handed weapon section. Alas I get to the point... What the heck am I supposed to do haha... I mean, so far I've been using my destruction robes and random heavy armor (boots/gloves) to get by in dungeons... But I find i'm losing the enjoyment I had when I was level 1-15... I find myself running away from mobs to heal or avoid the damage that basically cuts right through what little armor I have... And my swords don't deal nearly enough damage to actually have a enjoyable challenge.

Is there a certain perk tree I should also be utilizing? What armor? Do I invest myself into Alteration?

Could I be a Alteration, Destruction, One-handed weapon battle-mage thing-a-ma-jig? I apologize if my post seems like rambling... I'm just laying down what I've been thinking to do about it... Any replies at all would be nice...

That sounds like my first build, except with light armor. It didn't go well.
Smithing and enchanting are the way to go, if the game is too hard.
