Making the inns happier, V2

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 4:00 pm

So I looked for my original thread on this and could not find it, so I decided to reboot it and give it some fresh ideas.

So i've been reading Lord of The Rings and I just love the scenes were they are sitting in the taverns sharing stories. I'm sure that they could do that.

again i know that i've said this many a time, but maybe if i keep bringing it up every once and a while, they will fix it, i mean come on! there is more emotion and well... noise at a funeral! their Nords, you would think that while drinking they would have a good time. guess not.

The Primary Inns in Skyrim are pretty good. Bannered Mare, Candlehearth, Winking Skeever, etc. I was just really disappointed with any Inn not associated with a main settlement, they're all exactly the same. Even though Oblivion's inns looked largely similar, they were often quite unique in both feel and internal Layout. From the doorless bedroll you can rent (And own) in Aleswell, to the isolated Gottshaw Inn between Anvil and Kvatch (My personal favorite), each Inn really had a unique feel to it.

Not so in Skyrim... sadly.

Aside from the obvious atmospheric and aesthetic issues I have with most of the Inns in Skyrim, they also lacked a good opportunity for content generation. Bounties are all well and good (Would be better if you didn't have to collect at the capital), but surely they could have come up with more radiant content to make inns a focal point of unaffiliated content.

They aren't lively enough. Most inns have a bartender and two people sitting on opposite sides of the main room. Exciting stuff.

The "Major" inns really pick up between 7PM and Midnight. The Bannered Mare usually has just about every citizen in Whiterun drinking away their lives in these hours, the same is true for any other Inn in a major (Walled) City.

That's true, but the inns outside of major cities are pathetic.
