Post » Thu Sep 08, 2011 1:35 pm

Anyone else in band? :)

2nd trumpet, 4th chair, and our show is "A Touch of Buble"

Songs:

1. It Had Better Be Tonight
2. Fever
3. Everything
4. Theme From Spiderman

Our show was going to be music from Rocky Horror Picture Show until our old director was fired for a facebook comment :(

Girlfriend plays sax.

Same!

Anyway, I did four years of high school marching band. I played trumpet and was section head in concert and marching band my senior year. I've visited the band a couple times this year to make sure they are doing alright without me. :P
My last show was "Appalachian Spring Remixed". A really lame concept, but it came together well, and I had a duet.
So, does your band compete?

I was all about band in high school. Miss it quite a bit actually.

I was a drummer: section leader in concert band and on the drumline. It was a smaller school, so I was the only one that played the Quads.

It was awesome.

My school required a 'Music' class in 5th grade. We all played the Recorder. :P It was boring, never learned a thing. Just went there and looked like we knew what we were doing.

I kind of want to join my schools band but they have a really crappy program for it. They are nationally ranked and really good and stuff, when I say crappy, I mean I have to do 'conditioning' for band. It's pretty stupid. For 4 hours after school we walk around in the heat wearing drums the size of, well me.

It's not as bad as it sounds. Yes it is tough, time-consuming and exhausting, but it's totally worth it. Or at least for me it was. It whips you into shape and it all pays off when you take the field Friday night.

I played in symphonic band as lead saxophone from 4th grade to my freshman year in college, played second saxophone in jazz from my freshman year to sophomore year, drummer as well in jazz in sophomore year, then first sax in jazz from junior to senior year. I went into college thinking that the saxophone players would be way better then me and I could take a break from being first, but it turned out that all the other players were lazy and I ended up being first much to my dismay. That was the point where i decided to not play saxophone anymore, and concentrate on my drumming.

It was a fun ride though! I learned a lot on the treble clef. Now the bass clef on the other hand.... I'm learning that in music theory and piano class. It's a lot harder then I thought it would be.

We host a competition on September 24th.

We are also going to 2 or 3 other competitions.

Historically, we are one of the better bands in the area, :)

However, we have a new director, and alot of the talent is leaving this year.

Edit: Us last year. Crappy quality, but yep. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLgRVMVJTIs

The first song is kinda depressing (All of the trumpets who were blasting aren't here anymore. They were seniors who thought they were better than they actually were. )

I had to play recorder in 4th grade, and I tried clarinet in 5th grade. I just pretended to know what I was doing and lied about my practice time. I couldn't get used to it and it was a year long course. I hated it.

That's because woodwind instruments are inferior to brass.

Bass drum, 4th chair, in a military-style band.
We play:
Precision Fanfare
The Lieutenant Commander
Ponderosa
and Supreme air command.

Been in band since my freshman year (a sophomore now) and it's really been a blast. We had our first home game of the season last night, that was fun

Trumpet in the HS marching band and loved it. My girlfriend was in it, too. Good times! It was low key with practices during regular band time during football season, and few evenings as well. Don't remember many tunes: Night on Bald Mtn. Theme from McArthur Park, Toreador (fun wiht half-steps). 24 years later I still remember "cadence #3" :)

I feel sorry for some local bands that have jumped on the "competetive band" wagon where they put in 2 hours a night during the season. That's just wrong!

We practice for 90 minutes every day during school, and 2 hours after school on Tuesday and Thursday.

Wasn't in the band myself, but my high school had the world's largest high school marching band while I went there, and I believe they still do.

The school's wikipedia page says 680 members, but I don't know when that was posted. I'm sure it's still somewhere around that.
