Markarth Quest-line was Amazing!

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 4:25 am

Did anyone else find this series of quests to be well written and truly interesting? Personally, I thought these were the most interesting and well-thought-out quests in the game. I was disappointed with most of the quests in Skyrim as I found them to be tedious and repetitive, but the quests in Markarth involving the Forsworn conspiracy were actually unique and surprising. Anyone else feel this way?

I can guarantee you that almost 90% of the people will disagree, because the quest is apparently bugged beyond belief for most :P As for me, I don't remember it: I was intoxicated when I went through the quest. xD

That's pretty surprising, as I didn't experience a single bug with that questline. And I'm on ps3, which has had the most bugs in Skyrim.

These quests freeze on me. I can't get arrestsed. And I can't get in/around Markarth until I get arrested, and the game freezes when I get arrested. svcks.

I enjoyed this quest too.

I have a minor bug with the arresting gaurds still hanging out in the Shrine of Talos but that's easily avoided.

My only problem with it was that during the quest you join the foresworn. Maybe you do it because you actually side with them, maybe you do it to escape (that's why my character did it - nothing stands in the way of my freedom!). In either case as soon as it's over all foresworn are hostile towards you. I really don't see why they weren't set up as a faction like the Empire or the Stormcloaks. It's just wierd how I joined this group and since that quest of slaughtered dozens of them just because you have no other choice (well I suposse you could avoid exploring the Rift but that's about it).

This quest line had the potential to be amazing, but the bugs and glitches nearly every step of the way really ruined it. I've done it on 3 different playthroughs now, and each time was a different problem. First one was faction-bounty loop that was a hassle to fix, but also restarts any time I commit a new crime in Markarth. Second time, I had already finished the war and so "The Forsworn Conspiracy" was automatically completed without getting to do any of the quest at all. Third time, I did everything at the right time except I had other quests in progress, and going to the mine resulted in none of my quest items being returned and left several quests completely bugged and not able to be completed.

One positive thing: this is a way to get rid of those damn bard quest instruments.

Wow, I guess I was pretty lucky to not have any bugs with these quests

It was a cool quest line, no bugs for me.

However, the one part I did not like was having to kill someone based only on the word their leader. If that could have had an optional solution, then it would have been better.

I am just about done the Forsworn/Nord quest, and I want to know the benifits of siding with the Nords? Cuz I honestly kill both Madanach and Thonar no one plays me for a fool! So I know if I help Madanach the forsworm won't attack me in the region but will the Jarl still sell me the house in Markareth?

You can always go talk to him about having to kill the guy, and after that the other guys will actually kill him for you, but yeah i felt bad for him too. The funny thing about choosing to take revenge on the forsworn leader inside the prison is that you won't ever be able to do it, unless your a mage.

I must have bypassed quite a bit of this quest line. As a thief, I stole two extra shivs and got my revenge via backstabbing the forsworn leader. I didn't even bother talking to him. >:)

You can kill Madanach and his gang. You'll find a note on him detailing how to escape if you do. I wasn't a mage so I played along til that part, then didn't kill the guy and the other inmates killed him instead.

After I got my gear back, I turned around and wiped the floor with Madanach and Co.

Didn't really, i made it helping the forsworn, but then killing then all before they killed innocents. About the backstabbing, i never bothered to take him out like that, because i never took the dagger damage multiplier since daggers don't semm to get affected by perks...

The Forsworn still attack you... All except for this cave where everyone runs too after they flee Markarth.

I personally think that both sides are evil. The Forsworn kill Nords indiscriminately, and the Silver-Bloods killed that guy (who had a family), and then blamed me for it!

I loved the Markarth Forsworn quests, definitely the most intricate and satisfying city-related quests I think.

I agree, but that was the only way for Madanach to trust you. By killing someone on his word alone, it showed him that you were loyal to the Forsworn.

When it came to choosing sides, I sided with the Forsworn. I couldn't bear to help the corrupt city government, especially after they framed me and threw me in jail :glare:

I love the quest line, the mystery, the conspiracy, and even having a jail break reminiscent of Call of Duty: Black Ops. It's a great story line but the city itself...I don't know. I guess I stick around Markarth only because of Muiri. The City is a pain to navigate, at least for me.

EDIT: I only encountered one bug and it was pretty easy to fix. The Talos Shrine guard stuck around for a little while and I just had to enter a console command to fix it. Another problem where I would keep on getting arrested. Just committed an actual crime and got it fixed.

I don't like navigating the city either, so I don't really go there that often. But that kind of makes sense with the quest (if you sided with the Forsworn) because you really wouldn't want to go back to Markarth for a while after breaking out of prison and killing all those guards. It is a cool looking city though, and I like its nickname, the city of stone. It reminds me of Gondor actually, and so does Whiterun.

Well, I like Markarth once I figured out where is what, and I bought that place there after doing the two foresworn quests and later helping out the Jarl.

I didn't like either side also. I'd love to get rid of all Silver-Bloods and Foresworn if I can!

Spoiler
And I'm gonna try to root out the cannibals in that town, I messed up and failed a quest in the Hall of the Dead there.
Lastly, Understone Keep has some really nice ruins to stomp around in also.

I knew the first time I walked around Markath that the Devs went crazy on that place. It doesn't surprise me that the quests are top notch as well.

I must be thinking of another one because I didnt find it all that. Where you get jailed and help the forsworn king escape prison? Seemed kind of short.
