Marriage? Where the women at?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 4:17 pm

There seems to be a distinct lack of interesting women or even attractive ones that are on offer for marriage? Some of the most interesting characters and attractive women e.g. Sapphire, Grelka, Lynly Star-Sung..... Are all unavailable.

We are left with hags like Temba Wide-Arm and Aeri?

Whats the deal eh?

See list http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Marriage#Female_NPCs. There's plenty? (<- Grelka is up for marriage btw.)

And if you're playing on PC you can mod most NPC's to be up for marriage.

Grelka is bugged and her quests won't start. Without the quest her disposition of your character never raises and she will not want to marry you.

Unless you figured out how to start her quest? Do tell?

Its a game marriage should not be that important to you in a game. I just marry to get the benefits so I dont really care how she looks.

Good for you, but not everyone plays the same way you do.

Some of us like to RP and my characters have standards, apart from one, but he's a [censored] so it doesn't count. :P

I for one would like a decent wife in the game to follow me into battle that doesn't look like a foot stapled to a mouldy burger, the same applies to the males as well. Nords have the most terrifyingly meaty necks I have ever seen, I'm surprised they can breathe with that much flesh swarming around their jowls. Honestly I except to see their necks trying to eat their face eventually.

The marriage system had potential but ended up being completely shallow and if I'm stuck with a shallow system I might as well be shallow in return, if she isn't pretty, she isn't my wife. Unfortunately the few that actually look half-decent are non-combatants that just sit in the house all day. <_<

Well, the system is a bit shallow, but at least it is a start, allowing for decent role play. Part of the shallowness is to allow marriage nay-sayers to avoid it easily. My spellsword married Senna, and is very happy spoiling her with wealth and comfort in Markarth. As a Dibellan, he is only close to female companions, particularly Lydia, Jordis, Iona and Ria. If he selected a follower as a wife, it would be one of them... probably Ria.

It's a bit misleading. Virtually every NPC is marriageable as the marriage dialogues are based on voice actors, not characters. Grelka is not marriageable because it's intended. For example Niranye can't be married without console commands and that's perfectly WAD.

Some other woman with Grelka's actor is marriageable and thus Grelka is as well, though only with console commands.

Grelka is mentioned in the official strategy guide as a canidate for marriage. Also others have found an item in the game archives called 'Grelka's Package' (or something like that). The item is apparently supposed to be used in her quest (as it is never found in any other part of the game). What is apparently broken is her dialog to start the quest, which uses the package.

I'm sure there are others broken as well, but Lydia and Grelka are the two most noteworthy.

Is Senna still bugged? She's the priestess of Dibella that used to refuse to leave the temple, right?

If she refuses to leave the Temple, she has an aliased AI package to stay there, likely from "A Night to Remember" or "The Heart of Dibella." Completing those quests should cancel the alias and allow her to move.

Lydia is in the proper faction for marriage, but at the incorrect rank: 255, a rank used for those in the faction but latently; for example, Teeba-Ei is in the Housecarl faction at rank 255, and changes to rank 0 if the Stormcloaks take Morthal, which makes him the active Housecarl for Sorli the Builder.

Grelka is in the correct faction for marriage and at the correct rank, but her quest doesn't start, if she even has a working one. There are other quests that exist but can't be started (Phinis Gestor's missing apprentices quest and Nirya's quest to steal Faralda's notes, for example). Now, my brother tells me that Tacitus in Markarth became his friend because he let him pick up some armor he dropped, so there might be other ways to raise relationship rank. I'd assume that letting them keep something they ask you to have, or possibly saving them if they're kidnapped during a Companions quest, would do it.

Get Grelka to pick up something pretty you left around, and she's yours, or save her from bandits or somesuch. Romantic.

Most NPCs would have follower and marriage dialogue if added to the proper factions, save Khajiit (for example, any Argonian, male or female, can potentially be married because they all have the same voice types).

Definitely. I took Uthgerd the Unbroken out for a stroll through a bandit hideout last week. Now, don’t get me wrong. She is a capable warrior and I like a woman who could beat me in a fist fight just as much as the next man. But, would you want to wake up to a head like a torn sofa each morning?

Some of the most interesting characters and attractive women e.g. Sapphire, Grelka, Lynly Star-Sung..... Are all unavailable.

I agree…why oh why does Annekke Crag-Jumper have to be married! Hmmm…maybe her husband could have an “accident” it has been know to happen…

Okay, can we get a sticky thread all in capslock for marriage? This is probably the one thousandth thread since Skyrim came out and people always ask us instead of googling, checking UESP or the ES Wiki, and we keep giving the same answer. Can we not save some forum bandwidth this way?

My first character married Iona. I thought she was pretty decent as a wife.

My new character will have to wait until Ralof is available to marry and be a follower.

And for heterosixual females the selection is pretty bad as well. One has to think... do these people EVER bathe? Okay, probably once a year if that, and that goes for both sixes. But why don't the alchemists sell perfume? Oh, they're Nord, not French, mead or ale. The Altmer use perfume. The Argonians muck. The Khajiit sand. Bosmer leaves. Imperials perfume and garlic. Dunmer I don't know. But why don't I see a resort around the hot springs? Orcs probably ash mixed with sweat.

Anyway, everyone wears the same clothes they wore everyday for the past year. That suit of armor must smell real good by now so we're no treat to be around either.

Face the facts...Akataras is right "A foot... stapled to a mouldy burger." That's what we smell like. Elisilf probably gets perfume so throw some perfume on top of that. *gag* This is not good.

For male and female the selection options are just horrid. Marcurio has the least hanging meat slab of a face, but the second the robes come off he's effectively a stick with legs and Vilkas you can't marry without clearing The Companions questline and I'm pretty sure he's consistently covered in dirt.

Those are literally the only two males in Skyrim I find remotely attractive and the only decent looking females are house-wives. Then again whenever I hear 'Can't stand the sight of a strong Nord woman' I reach for my sword.

...That could be interpreted in more than one way. XD

It's official, Skyrim needs a bath house.

And maybe a brothel.

What? My characters are all shameless. >_>

And unlike most people in Skyrim, they actual go for a bath and change their clothes once in a while.

...Whether they put them back on again is a totally different matter.

if your on the pc just use the console and you will be able to marry nearly anybody, there is a distinct lack of interest in the female/male totty section of skyrim, still- i love ysolda sunshine attitude! :)

the thing about beth is they allow gamers the incentives to change/alter/make things into there games, the console is your most basic tool but then you have mods aswell.

hell, for giggles i decided to marry the jarl of whiterun, and it works! haha i was daddys little girl who could have anything she wanted...but then i left because the kids constantly told her to get out of the jarls bedroom :/ svcks

one last thing, i never really understood all the hype about lydia, i mean shes OK ( though the males can decide that!) but shes not like WOW! i totally fell for sven on my first chracter, but then hes just so...um nothing lol- i mean heso k for my normal mild people, but for the high-fliers (such as my most recent high-elf battlemage hwo is aiding the stormcloaks) they need somebody who is a bad boy/girl, shes determined to have ulfric, then she can be high queen of skyrim :D

but yeah lydia is, both in combat and in six appeal (crude i know) fairly average, she's what it says on the itn, nothing special.
