Massive increase in archery damage post-patch installation

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 6:41 am

Something happened to my archery damage after the patch was installed.

My ebony bow, which did 36 points damage before patch 1.5, now does 88 points damage.

All other bows in the game that I've seen today (8 PM, first time I've played since 1.5 installed itself), have also increased tremendously. I found a plain hunting bow, and the damage had increased to 66 points - normally about 12 or something close to it, I think.

All other weapons damage remains the same.

I'm going to load my other archery character and see if that happened to her, too.

One other issue, is it possible to make the kill cam for archers a "toggle on/off?" I don't like to be in a small room with 3-5 skeletons or other enemies becoming active and losing visual control while my character goes into kill cam mode. Thanks.

PS: Definitely a problem with the archery damage. My level 44 archery girl was doing (I havent played her in a few months) about 120, give or a take a few points either way.

I just loaded her and her bow damage had increased to 221.

Don't know if this counts as massive but my ebony bow w/c dealt 17 damage with 23 archery now does 30 after the patch dealing nearly twice as much

Overdraw perk
Archery% enchants
Smithing

I'm still on 1.4.27 version of the game (1.5 sounds far too buggy so not interested). An Ebony bow with no smithing upgrades or +archery% enchanted armour equipped has 45 base damage for me. That's with 78 Archery skill and 4/5 Overdraw (+80% damage).

As you guys don't state what you've done to your bows with smithing, what overdraw perks you have, and if you're wearing any enchanted armour, it's impossible to compare ;)

I play a permanent level one character.

This means no increases in health, magicka, or stamina, and therefore no skill trees and perks are used.

Also, I run no mods.

Like I said, damage before and after are much higher than before patch installation.

I get this bug too, my orcish bow without any improvements gives 55 damage.
Hunting bow has 51 damage.

HELP PLEASE bethesda. It occurs after 1.5 patch.

It is adding your arrow damage to your base bow damage along with any buffs you may have, like 20% more archery damage from a ring or something and probably any alchemy buffs you have injested. Didn't test that one. I don't think anything is different, it's just adding it up for you. Unless it wasn't adding it all up before and you truly were only getting whatever your bow damage was.

Update: Today I did a long quest that -at one point - required me to take off my armor, rings, amulet, and all weapons.

When the quest was finished, I got dressed and looked at my bow, and the damage was back to 36.

So, I figured that removing the weapon fixed the problem.

However, soon thereafter I got into a fight and got one of the the kill-cam shots. Seconds later, for some unknown reason, I checked bow damage again, and it was back up to 88.

So, I'm thinking that one or more of the kill-cams is causing this problem. I will remove the bow tomorrow and see if the damage drops back to 36, and then get into a fight and check after each kill-cam to see if it goes back up to 88.

PS: Several players on the Steam forum have also run into this problem.

PPS: In case anyone is interested, here's the link to the Steam forums from players who also have increased bow damage after installing 1.5:

I wonder if it's possible to use a system restore to go back in time before 1.5 installed itself.

I hate the way Bethesda does patches - you should have an option to install it or not.

Methinks the problem was that not many people tested the 1.5.24 beta and the beta was rushed out the door. I was testing the beta patch until the CK incompatibilities issue came up - then I rolled back to 1.4.27 until that was fixed. Unfortunately that issue wasn't fixed until after the beta was pushed out the door and it was too late to further test it.

The problem with not installing 1.5.24 now is that the current CK version isn't 100% compatiable with older versions of the game. So new mods may not run on the older versions of the game.

I did some further testing.

I removed my bow and put it in my chest. I then saved and left the game, returned and reloaded, and took the bow from the chest.

There was no change in the amount of damage - still 88.

The one thing I have not tried yet is to remove two pieces of armor and a ring which each increases archery damage by 15%. I'll try that later. This was removed during an earlier quest, and the damage dropped back down to 36.

I think that I'm having this issue also. I'm not entirely sure how much damage my Ebony Bow did before 1.5, but now it does 198. I have overdraw fully leveled up and an additional 80% increase to archery, but it doesn't seem like my damage should be so high..

It's a bug tracker, seperate findings from noise.

Right. Since the post you quoted contained "unless", we have no idea which part you refer to.

Look at the comments on the linked bug entry. The arrow damage not only adds to the total damage as in 1.4, it additionally increases the weapon damage.
