Massive spawn inside Whiterun

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 12:29 am

A very strange thing happened today. I had just finished the quest to retrieve the Elder Scroll and had a lot of stuff to sell, so I decided to fast travel to Whiterun. Once arriving complete chaos broke out. There were draugrs, ice wolfs, bandits, silver hands, falmers (at least two of each). All seemed to have spawned just beside me when I arrived. I also noticed a giant spider just outside the doors. That is, I could see the red dot and hear the noise but couldn't get to it because it was "outside the map". Anyway, after a rather long battle with guards and civilians things finally settled down. Now I'm just wondering, wtf happened? Is my game save corrupt?

Mods used:

Bag of Holding
Ranger Cabins (V1.3)
Cowardly Horses
Silversmithing
Fixed Eye Adaption
Glowing Ore Veins 300

Where I am in the game:

Level 29.
Recently finished the civil war quest line on the Stormcloak side.
Have completed the Companions quest line.
Not a member of either the Thieves guild or the Dark Brotherhood.

Hmm my game did that too recently (post-latest patch). I fast traveled to one of the mines in the Reach and several Draugr (including a Deathlord), a Sabercat, two Bandits and a Skeever were there. I'm not running any of the mods you are running... maybe it is the patch?

Wow - that's wild!
In Whiterun!? No.... !

Reload a save previous, see if it happens again, if it's reproducible.
Sounds like a wierd, freaky, one-off glitch to me.
Like as if you were playing for ~6 hours+ and needed to reboot your PC...
Anyway I don't think it's the new patch or these forums would be lit up like a 6-alarm fire.
At least I hope so! I'm running the new patch meself (but I've been already getting the beta patches all along).

But that's pretty amazing, LoL

This happened to me tonight right after I went online with Steam. I usually play offline but when there's a patch, I load online and play a little and then go to offline mode. I took a carriage to Winterhold and the street was filled with draugr fighting the guards. There were also bandits and necromancers. The guards won and I looted the bodies. The only mod I'm running is the Crafting Satchels one that puts a satchel on every crafting table and it's a Steam Workshop DL. It had to be something in the patch or an extra in that mod. Fun!!

Added: I also am subscribed to that Space Core one that never appeared in my Data File Load list until now. Maybe it's that one?

Had it happen to me at Riverwood. Draugr, soldiers, necromancers, and a bear. Happens with any save, and with all mods disabled.

Yikes...
It's very strange. Stay tuned, we'll see what's up tomorrow (and the next coupla days).
Myself, I'm going in right now and I don't want to see this.
Fingers crossed, heheh...

In other thread someone reported having spawned an iceberg and another static I can't recall now. From all the features the patch includes, I think this is the better candidate to be causing this: "Fixed issue where pressing Escape button after fast traveling but before the loading would cause certain menus to stop working properly" as it seem to be related to fast travel.

Yep, it's happened to me today, twice. First time I took a carriage to Markarth, and there's bandits standing outside the main gate. They aren't hostile. I chalked it up to a glitch. Then, I took a carriage to Whiterun, and happened upon a battle between wolves, a necromancer, and a bandit in front of the stables.

I thought it might be a spawning issue that I saw mentioned on these boards, so I went into Drelas' Cottage (who I've killed and now consider my "home"), and waited 3 days. Ran back to Whiterun, bandits/wolves/necros still there. Reloaded. waited 15 days. Ran to Whiterun, still there. Reloaded, waited 31 days. Ran to Whiterun... yeah, still there.

Pretty flippin annoying. Now I'm attempting to fix it by reloading an old save (in a dwemer ruin) and I'll try waiting 3 days there. I don't really know how to determine whether I'm in a cell in order to make sure I'm resetting the spawns correctly, though.

But if this is an issue with carriage travel and fast travel, I may just be borked until a fix arrives.

Edited to add: Waiting 73+ hours inside Raldbthar did not fix the issue. Guess I'll just have to walk everywhere until this issue is acknowledged and fixed. Time to buy a horse I suppose. :/

Yeah. Same thing happening on my hubby's game.

First, he got attacked by a necromancer in Whiterun. Guards cleaned that right up.
Next, went to the College at Winterhold. As soon as he got there, he was attacked by a wounded giant frostbite spider and a draugr. Ok. Little weird but it's the mage's college.
There were a couple of safe quick travels from safe place to safe place with no problems.
Went out with Aela to recover the third relic of Hercine, and when they fast traveled back to Whiterun stables it spawned in about 15 draugr, a couple of bandits and just absurd amounts of random stuff.
Try reloading a few saves back, go out someplace random, get the same massive amount of stuff, except this time a blood dragon shows up, proceeds to scrag about three-quarters of the random spawn and chases him around until he reloads.

Whee!

It seems if you fast travel from someplace without hostiles, nothing comes with you. It's almost like it takes everything in your vicinity along for the ride. Can anyone else confirm that?

EDIT: Yeah. Rolling back the patch worked here too.

I am having a similar issue, but without the hostiles. Every time I fast travel Esbern shows up (he was bugged enough before this). This started happening with the newest patch. I rolled back to the previous version and it does not happen. My wife has been using the beta version of this patch and she has not seen this issue. Really weird. Hopefully something will be fixed soon.

Every time I fast travel now the bandit thug shows up with me. He stays where we arrived but he's there...and he's very polite. He'll say "Need something?" or "Good afternoon." No hostility at all. Just hilarious. I just love these games and this thread is a scream. :tes:

I reloaded from a save before I took the carriage to Markarth and walked there instead. No bandits appeared at the gate. I haven't made it back to Whiterun to check it there (walking takes a while!).

Lol, this is what Microsoft would term, "not a bug, but an undocumented feature." I wish this sort of thing would happen from time to time. But Kicenna, how do you run without Steam online? Any time I've tried it the game quits to desktop. I might have to start trying different travel modes.

Up in the top left corner of the Steam window there's a menu option to Go Offline. I choose that, Steam reloads and then I exit Steam. I have a desktop icon to load Skyrim and Steam gives me two options. I choose the Offline mode button on the right side. That's all. I hope this works for you. :tes:

Multiple spawns can occur after a patch. It is because of the scripts resetting. After 72 or so game hours, things settle down.

So enjoy it while it lasts, or wait somewhere for 73 hours.

According to Sisqi above, waiting 73 plus hours in game did not fix this bug. I did not try since I saw that post. I am heading out the door to work or I would try now. Should we just press "T" and wait 24 hours 3-4 times to see if that fixes it? Also, is there a certain place we should do this at, or just where we continue from before attempting to fast travel?

Played ~5 hours last night, version 1.4.27.0.4
Nothing! Everything calm...
So it's very strange, and only a handful of people reporting.

In my experience so far, it is 100% linked to fast travel.

This was reported in the Beta forum prior to patch release as well. (Hasn't happened to me yet, but I spend too much time in the CK. :) )

You probably have already saved the game conditions that created the mob, or saved the mob after it was created, so it will be there until you deal with it.

Or, you need to update your mods for the new patch. Note, it still will not remove this from your save.

Try loading an earlier save.

That doesn't appear to be the issue, I get it with a new game, no mods enabled. If I revert to a previous .exe version I have no problems. So it is not related to mods, or save data. It's not limited to Riverwood either, fast travel to any location triggers it.
