Master Blacksmith... Only Flawless Iron Dagger?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:02 am

Tried to improve an iron dagger the other day and I expected it to go to legendary like all my other stuff does but for some reason it only goes to flawless. I have EVERY tree point in the Blacksmith skill tree (with of course 100 Blacksmith skill) so why the hell can I only reach flawless with iron?

Really puzzling.

Iron and leather don't have an associated perk so they don't qualify for the double improvement you get with the perks.

I've noticed this too. While I don't have my level at 100 yet, I can improve weapons and armor to Epic level. What I find strange is that I will start with a basic weapon, say an Iron Dagger. I'll take it to a grindstone and improve it to Fine. I may then be able to improve it to Superior, but more often that not, I can't. There seems to be a delay of indeterminate time before you can improve an item to the next level. I haven't seen anything written on this delay, but it is clearly there. I should be able to improve an iron dagger up to Epic at one sitting, however, there may be days (in game) before I can improve it to the next level.

Who cares? NeoMorph does - member names are displayed to the left of a post.

There is nothing wrong with questions like this - and I'd hardly call it a complaint, just a request for clarification. Please do not insult members by telling them their questions are "sad" or not worth asking.

NeoMorph asked a perfectly reasonable question, fragonard responded with a succinct and clear explanation.

Not QQing you dimbot. Just pointing out that it was puzzling. Can make all sorts of fancy armour and can't even improve a bog standard knife lol.

Sometimes I wish I could improve some of you [censored] who go "LALALALALALALALANOTHINGTOSEEHERELALALALALA" when people point out bugs/glitches/strange stuff.

Edit: WTF... Why the heck did the system censor D I M B O T? I swear that politically correct is going WAY too far these days.

The answer has been found. /thread

It might work to drink a few blacksmith potions before upgrading the next iron dagger: it just might get to legendary with it. *might*

Yeah, he's right about the blacksmith potions. Just remember you'll need to have a high Alchemy level (with perks) to do so.

Yeah, you can get stuff with no associated perk to Legendary if you boost your skill enough. This is useful e.g. for some unique items.

I don't really WANT a legendary Iron dagger... it was just a weird thing was all. Hell, the only reason I keep the daggers is that I enchant them with Paralyze and sell them on for decent cash. Try selling things like dragon armour and you are stuffed because the damned shop owners can't afford it. I mean, why let us make awesome stuff and then we can't sell it ffs. lol

I know there is a tree that lets you invest but PLEASE... that is a waste of skill points imho.

I think what you mean is smithing perks are a waste? It all depends on how you want to play. The main reason to take them is if you think that kind of armor or weapon looks cool. You don't need to go all the way up to be effective. But I wouldn't say they are a waste. Especially for improving weapons, not so much for armor since there is a cap.

I call design flaw or lack of effort on balance & content.

I thought you could only get legendary if you selected the appropriate perk, and as it has been state iron doesn't have a perk

Or, you can buy them from orc alchemists in strongholds. 40% better blacksmithing potions are not hard to find.

No, you can definitely get legendary without a perk. My thief has iron and dwarven stuff smithed to legendary, and he can't even make enchanted smithing gear.

I dunno... I just wanted my character to make whatever weapons and armour he needs. I basically play the guy as a spellsword artisan.... but at the moment he is sliding towards the darkside because the werewolf genes are making him more beastlike. It's not in the game but that's how I am playing it. ROLE playing it. I love games that lets you do that.

1. Max out smithing, alchemy, and enchanting.
2. Enchant two sets of clothes/armor/jewelry. One set should increase alchemy, the other set should increase smithing skills.
3. Wear the alchemy set and create smithing potions.
4. Switch to the smithing set, create the iron dagger, drink the smithing potion and use the worktable.
5. You will have a legendary dagger.

BTW, my smithing potions from what I recall, increase smithing by 130%. When I am wearing my smithing clothes in addition to this, everything becomes legendary. I think I could make a wooden sword legendary, if they had them in Skyrim.
