Master Criminal or Master Idiot?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 4:45 am

There has been some conversations recently about Achievements in the game, so I went and looked at them for the first time. I see that there is an Achievement of "Master Criminal" and to qualify we have to get a bounty of at least 1,000 septims in all nine holds. Excuse me?

Aside from the fact that this is stupidly easy (just kill one random person under the gaze of the guards in each city), how does getting caught indicate you are a master criminal? Quite the reverse, surely, and getting caught a minimum of nine times ought to suggest that in the criminal world you are a master idiot.

I wonder if the person who came up with this idea for an achievement actually had any idea of the mechanics of the game.

You can kill Nazeem at level 1. provided you are willing to chase him all day long.

I find the achievements to be not "achievements", but "track record". I find especially the one that asks you to craft stuff (smith, brew, enchant) to be incredibly stupid. It's so easy I don't think it's supposed to be a milestone, it's supposed to be a standard

Simple - you're not a criminal if you don't get caught.

Everything's legal until the guards find out :P

The vast majority of achievements for any game these days are stupid, which is why I don't understand why some people obsess over them and feel that they are somehow special for getting most of them. I get the ones where you kill 1000 of a certain type of enemy or you kill a very powerful enemy with a spoon but most achievements are just acknowledging that you finished a quest...........which you were going to do irregardless just by playing the game. Achievements should be limited to going way above and beyond normal gameplay. They used to be limited to things like only saving once the entire game or not using any medkits etc. stuff that required alot of effort and in many cases a good number of playthroughs to achieve. Nowadays you get achievements for just passing the tutorial. :facepalm: This must be some aspect of the whole self-esteem thing getting into video games along with video games in general just becoming easier.

Achievements are stupid. What's with getting an achievement for completing Unbound? It's like an achievement for playing the game...
God, I wish I wasn't such a completionist. >.<*

@bigglesworth:
lol, so true. Wish achievements are limited to YouTube videos as evidence, so those genius who figured out how to do stuff the hardcoe way can truly (and rightfully) brag about it. Should've left our single player games alone.

But achievements. :shrug:

Now they're like collectibles instead of achievements
