Ive never been much on companions cause everytime I have one they die, but that all changed earlier this afternoon I went to Riften went to the inn and Mauricio was chillin. I hired him gave him a ring as well as a staff a Mage Hood and crafted his Elven Dagger to Legendary. Although I need to find some new robes, Any dungeons anyone knows of with high ranked mages with good robes? I go anywhere with him no matter what enemy he zaps everything and they go flying I barely get to kill anything because of him he duel wields ice and fire spells and I love it. Sorry this was kinda random but I though I would share.

Try the Radiant Raiment, they have a large selection of different clothes, including mages robes.

If you want a powerful companion you should try J'zargo he is probably the best one.

Oh sweet baby Jesus. He is not the best, he is one of the worst. This has been beaten like a redheaded stepchild.

Anyone who questions the J'Zargo/Marcurio dilemma needs to watch pms00's follower anolysis:

J'Zargo - http://youtu.be/RtJ65314eKw

Edit: forgot to capitalize Jesus.

I can't help but think that a companion who is killing everything for you is interfering with your skill levels increasing. Is that not the case?

Marcurio is awesome.
J'zargo is terrible.

I like Eola better than Marcurio though, she's just cooler and she's almost as good as him.

Unless your Orc is fanatically anti magic then a mage follower makes more sense than a melee one. Round out your skill set with your follower as opposed to simly duplicating them. Maybe he has a grudging respect for magic but felt no desire to use it as he always had an affinity for weapons. When he meets Marcurio your Orc will be impressed by the mage's firey, warrior-like disposition.

To the OP, I think he comes with Adept Robes of Destruction, it just doesn't show in his inventory, but he gets the affects. So it seems like a waste of money to try to buy anything better unless you just have so many septims you can burn 'em.
