Maven Nlack-Briar and the Black Sacrament...

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 7:29 am

So I was poking around the Briar residence and happened upon a "Master" level door. I was dedicated to opening this door because I wanted to steal something of value from Maven.

When I opened the door I was surprised to find human remains and a note to the Brotherhood. Was an opportunity missed here?

I find it fascinating that Maven wants someone dead but there are no indications as to whom. Is there an unmarked quest? Did Beth miss a good story arc? Does anyone know anything about this?

If you do the TG questline, you'll find that she wants a number of her business competitors taken care of.

I think those "things" are just in case she needs to contact the DB. She must be a very affectionate customer.

She even threat the player... too bad it's not possible to respond " *I* wiped out the DB. Now what? "

There is a certain side quest in which the player can choose to act against Maven's will. In that case, the next random DB assassin will carry a note mentioning Maven name. Very smart of them. In case of failure, the authorities would prosecute directly the instigator of the crime.

Steal her Dibella Statue. I'm sure it would piss her the F off - I know i took it - not a high gold value, but I suspect she values it on other levels. Then I 'laundered' it and have in my house in Solitude since she likes the Empire so much.

Which quest was this? I may have done it and just not noticed the details. :P

Just how loyal are the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhoof underlings? if Maven showed up and said "I'll make you rich beyond your wildest dreams if you gut the Guild Master/Listener in his/her sleep," how can you be sure that they wouldn't do it?

If your decisions make her Jarl, and if she appoints you as Thane, she's pretty much like "yawn... okay, you can be a thane... yawn... I guess I won't have you killed just yet because you might be of use to me... yawn..." God I love that power-hungry, psychotic cougar.

Good thing I never sleep.....and I live in the old blades HQ in Riverwood so unless those svckers want to follow me into some ancient ruin and try and take me mano-a-mano, they won't succeed. But also the DB pretty much require a listener to really succeed and they're intensely loyal in a cult-like fashion, so money probably wouldn't sway them.

Let's be honest: in-game stuff doesn't always match up with the story. For example, Cicero and Arbjorn are nearly evenly matched in "The Cure for Madness," but if the player is a low level, Cicero will always win because he's always level 40 with an ebony dagger while Arnbjorn is level-offset.

I didn't know she became jarl if you went Imperial. Well, looks like I'm going Stormcloak now. I can't stand her.

No, no! I was Stormcloak. The part where you can make her Jarl is during the big meeting with the deadbeards. If you suggest Riften, then it falls to Maven as jarl.
I don't mind, my character's obsessed with her.

I gave the Empire Pawnstar and Wintermold, and Markarth to the Stormcloaks. My, my, how Tullius grumbled. There simply was no way I was giving M B-B any more power, and I married her daugher, so you'd think I'd have a vested interest, lol.

So, are the typos because of my typo in the title? Because, your typos are funnier. LOL

Oh, OK I get it now. So, I have to pick a town then. I've only done side quests. I've not done anything with the Civil War or the MQ. I'm level 44 and just finally went to see the Greybeards.

At least the DB would easily do it, since
Spoiler
it didn't take but Penitus Oculatus to threaten to wipe out DB's sanctuary, and they betrayed their Listener. And pencsus Ocularus still wiped out the sanctuary, they lied. So, [censored] happens?

edited for typos

Not sure I follow this.

Spoiler
It was Astrid's betrayal alone that caused the destruction of the DB. She betrayed the Listener because she wanted things to stay the way they were before the Night Mother arrived. The whole assassination attempt on the Emperor's double was arranged by her. The Empire removes a threat for her.

But if Maven talked to Astrid about sweet rolls, it may have come to the same end.
