Maximum Characters Amount Reduced?

Post » Sat May 14, 2011 12:40 am

Forgive me if there is already a topic about this, but I saw something about how the amount of characters that could be stored was reduced from 16 to 10.

Is this true? If so, can I see a source?

I do believe it is true, I don't have the source, it hasn't been the topic of it's own thread yet.

Yes it is, also you can't transfer XP and you there is no more "Soldier Shield."
I don't have a link, but it was said on the SD forums.

How heavy of a blow is it, though? How many characters did you plan to play in any given day? I figure that if you don't play a character much at all, aren't they wasting space 98% of the time?

id be happy with just 5. tbh, im glad u cant transfer XP, that means u will have to actually spend time playing each file to level up. But do u have to make weapon classes for each character? or is it all of them have the same guns? like if i made an smg class, can every character use that smg class, or is the class specific for one character, and u have to make another class for another character?

I don't think there's been any word on this. I'd imagine no - there would be different weapon loadouts for each character.

Im not liking this whole making cuts to meet the deadline. It means they are either going to keep cutting things, or they will delay the game even more. Although personally i really just want to play the game even if it means a few cuts. college has me too stressed out and i need a serious distraction. plus going from 16 to 10 character doesnt bother me. like someone said, i wouldnt even mind five...or three.

I don't think it's too much of a cut.
I mean, how many of those 10/16 characters are you actually going to USE a LOT in matches, anyway, lol? :D
I think it's enough to specialize in the different classes and still can make some mixed-classes as well.

Since body types can be changed between matches (and thus, are not permanent), you can still experiment
with the different playstyles of each body type for each class. ^_^

Is this 10 characters that have a security/resistance version (for when you switch sides in a match) or is there only 5 character "slots" that you make a version for each team?

They have pushed it back several times and things keep coming on or off the game. I would really not appreciate another delay.

10 characters that have models for both sides.

10 characters. Each can change between Security and Resistance with the flick of a switch. Not sure on the weapon thing though. They have said that unlocking a weapon unlocks it for all of your characters. No idea if characters share loadouts though, or if you can just choose from a gun pool every time you go to a command post.

SD cuts ideas because they see ways for their ideas to be abused/neglected. For instance, with the 24-hour ability trial period, one could test every ability there was and only use the few that they felt right for their playstyles. That would mean no one would step out of their comfort zone and attempt to adapt to a new style of play. Plus, there was no way to take things back if you weren't able to cancel your trial after the 24 hour period was up.

Kind of off topic but does anyone know if you have to wait until levels 5 and 7 to unlock heavies and lights for every character? Or will it just be a one time unlock, after which you can change your body type from the get go?

At level 5-ish, Heavy and Light wights will be available.

No idea. Probably each but it would be nice if only the first character.

Yeah, the big changes we're being informed of so close to release do make me wonder.

I'm going to miss my 6 extra guys, but I guess I'll make due.

You unfortunately cannot transfer XP between characters. It's something we wanted to do, but was ultimately a casualty of getting the game finished for May.

Napalm is displeased.

Agreed. Some changes such as this have me wondering if we went back to the E3 2010 Brink it would be better... :/ but i guess if they took that out they had to add in something. Also with the Heavies and Lights being at diffrent levels it makes me wonder if when i play in thta bracket 5-10 ill be met by a bunch of heavies in the beginning and then a bunch of lights.
