Mazes - I hate mazes!

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:11 pm

Mazes - the RECONN building - geesh I Hate that place! I get sooo lost. The directional finder is always on a different floor and I always run around in circles......

Airport is the same thing -

Can you play this game without playing these big buildings? Can you skip the quests that require you to run from floor to floor thru hallways, into rooms, run in circles?

Thanks - I don't know enough about all of the quests (yet) so I have no idea what quests to look up to see if they involve mazes - Thanks again for any info/tips!

I typically just hug a wall (either on my left or right) and wander around until I've explored a complete floor (i.e. ignore stairs you come to). Then see if you made a big loop with unexplored rooms in the middle. If so, explore them. If not, go back to the stairs and go up (or down) and repeat the process. You'll usually find your way through.

Lol, you've never played a Fallout game if you aren't used to these buildings by now, hell, there were even a few like that in Elder Scrolls games.

Dont get me started on the Daggerfall dungeons , those where mazes. What we have in F NV is nothing compared to that.
If you stick to the main quest , you wont come across many "mazes" , but if you want an ending thats saying something else then what you did in the end , then you have to stick with them.

I like exploring labyrinthine environments but there is a problem with the way this engine handles maps as they are often quite misleading especially when it comes to multi-level buildings.

There are a couple vaults that are a difficult to navigate. The local map is a pain to decipher in these locations. I had to resort to the tactic of dropping prewar money every couple yards to see where I had been.

Tactics like this can save lots of time, I've always put a bullet hole in the door to a room I've already been through, or an arrow in TES games,

Yeah the classic bane of RPG's "Mazes", I hate them too. I really hate them. I dont know why RPGs feel the need to use Mazes to add game content. I dont get off on navigating through caves / vaults / or any type of atmosphere that makes navigation difficult.

I find that with the bigger multi level buildings to just ignore the compass and explore it. None of the buildings that I have been in could really be called Mazes. However, at least in this game, the buildings are not as linear and are somewhat more difficult to get around in, but that is a good thing.

Same advice I gave in FO3 - use frag mines as place markers at intersections. With the bonus that it acts as a way to guard your six. Or easy to see items like baseballs, teddy bears, nuka cola trucks. Stack of books or other junk too.

There was also the "http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9673" mod in FO3, which was extremely handy. I used to carry half a dozen of a bunch of different colors so that I could mark hallways.

I'm just really glad I haven't had to use tunnels yet! I HATED those tunnels in DC from Fallout 3. And I despised the fact that I had to use them to get to a lot of places as there was no other way around.
