McCandless the Wasteland Survivor

Yes it is another "Need Help With Build" Topic but hey at least I was original with the topic title right? I am not looking to make a sniper/assassian here I am looking to make a sniper survivalist. Since I plan on playing with the hardcoe mode on I decided I would focus on survival first. The sniper part second so here is my build so far. Honestly I did not get past level 4 perk selection so yeah...

S:5 - sadly I need this as high as it is for the rifles I plan on using else it would be lower
P:5 - I am not all to happy with lowering this one to boost others for skills but I don't think seeing my targets sooner on radar is a huge advantage
E:7 - Needed for Survivalist which is my main focus skill off the back
C:1 - This Character is about survival in the wasteland with minimal contact with other people so his social skills take a major back seat, plus I did this in fallout 3 and didn't mind to much
I:8 - Helps with Medicine, Science and Repair which in return helps with healing, hacking and crafting
A:5 - Helps with guns which I will need and sneaking which I will focus on once my tags are in their 80's
L:9 - Helps with every skill and increases my chance of criticals in combat win, win both ways. Plus it will help with casino games when I get that far

Traits: Trigger Discipline, Built to Destroy
Tag: Guns, Survival, Repair
Secondary: Lockpicking, Medicine and Sneak

Perks
Level 2 Hunter - makes hunting easier
Level 4 Rad child if survival is high enough or Rapid Reload

From here I am unsure as what to select since I haven't worked out where my stats will be to properly pick Perks but I plan on going with survival like perks first, then work on my sniper/combat perks later.

So if you made it this far I feel free to help with my build. Suggest any changes you see fit from my S.P.E.C.I.A.L to traits, skills or perks.

S:6 - sadly I need this as high as it is for the rifles I plan on using else it would be lower

Which rifle? With the implant and the perk 5 STR should be enough for anything.

P:4 - I am not all to happy with lowering this one to boost others for skills but I don't think seeing my targets sooner on radar is a huge advantage

Are you aware that several perks including Better Criticals require 6 PCN?

I:6 - Helps with Medicine, Science and Repair which in return helps with healing, hacking and crafting

It helps with everything because your skill points per level are based on it.

A:7 - Helps with guns which I will need and sneaking which I will focus on once my tags are in their 80's

A point AGL is giving you +2 Guns +2 Sneak. A point of INT will give you a point every other level you can allocate there. By level 8 you can use that for +2 Guns +2 Sneak, ending up in the same place on those skills. By level 16 you can double that, by level 24 triple that. Meanwhile INT is also giving +2 Medicine, +2 Science, +2 Repair. In other words, for each point of AGL you take over INT you're losing 17 skill points by level 30, 15 of which can be allocated anywhere you want, including Guns or Sneak.

I am not sure of the rifles name but its the .308 one and it was said it requires 6 str to use. Otherwise I would have my str at 4 tbh, kinda what I did in fallout 3. Okay so drop my strength to 5, add it pcn for 5 then agi to 5 and add them to int for 8. I edited my original post, does it seem better?

I would like to bump my PCN up a point or two but honestly I really don't see how without going away from my intended build. Maybe I can implant or increase it with intense training later? As I said off the back I am focusing heavy on survival and combat will take second. Sounds odd I know combat and survival should go hand in hand but this game seems to make you focus on either or.

In my opinion, yes. However keep in mind I drop a lot of stats to 5 because I get implants relatively early. If I were you I'd look up the perks and make sure that if there's a perk you know you're going to want that you have the SPECIAL for it. A lot of them are at 6.

Also I usually drop AGL even further and take Small Frame. It's really not so much that AGL, PCN or CHA are bad, it's that INT, END and LUCK are so awesome... and STR/PCN/AGL all have important perks whereas CHA has jack and crap.

The highest STR needed for a rifle is 8. However you can get a perk to lower that by 2, putting the Hunting Rifle at four and soem others like the Light Machine Gun at six. With 5 STR and the implant you're at 6.. so you can use anything but a minigun. And AFAIK you can still use it.

You dont need Science and Lockpick. Lock picking is more worth it than hacking.

Sounds like I will leave it where it is then, shouldn't effect me to much.

So just drop science and take lock picking? I went with science because I would already have a lot of points in it due to my high INT, though with a high INT I will have more skill points to get lock picking up higher with.
