I mean, c'mon....

Finally found a character build I liked. Started getting into it, forgave the regular frame-rate issues the game had, back to back load screens, hey it's a HUGE environment, right? Small price to pay. So what if a critter or companion gets stuck in the occasional object, the game auto saves every two seconds anyway... choose to leave Benny alone and avoid the main story arch to wander around explore and do some side missions.... and got carried away... level 28, savior of the wastes, punch people's head off barehanded through 20 points of armor through DT reduction perks, 3 unique unarmed maneuvers, most skill books located and read, most snowglobes found, more than 20 unique weapons found, 100+ locations found, 34 hours of actual game time logged, 534 saves....

Cool story bro.

Anyway, all this stuff is on a character I can no longer access because when I load my game from the main menu by either selecting the "Continue" or "Load" option I get this message: "This save game relies on downloadable content that is no longer available. Some objects may no longer be available. Continue loading?" No matter which option I choose from here the game either resets or crashes....across all saves. Funny thing is, besides the patch (which has not been uninstalled), I don't HAVE any DLC for New Vegas. I didn't know there even WAS dlc besides the first patch for New Vegas. Went looking around teh interwbz for a fix for my problem. Found this: "http://www.examiner.com/console-game-in-st-louis/fallout-new-vegas-glitch-causes-save-games-to-not-load" and decided to post it here because his problem is my problem.

I'm on an Xbox.

Shameless self bump.

Also when go to the "downloadable content" option in the main menu I get an error message that says "This feature is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Status code: d0000034" So how in the *@!# am I going to be able to download any hypothetical fix for this issue if NV won't connect to xbox live (and it IS just New Vegas, btw, other games get online just fine)?

Congratulations, you are now the proud owner of the DLC bug.
Please join the very long queue of disgruntled, annoyed and downright pissed off members of the public who have been screwed by this game and its Developers.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm actually sort of relieved that they know about my issue, but the question still stands about how I'm supposed to download a fix for it when New Vegas gets an error message and can't connect to Xbox live. I'm sort of hoping a mod or admin can answer that question.

I really feel bad for the people who don't have an internet connection and won't even be able to download the patch when it eventually comes out (yes, they do exist). Crappy year for video game quality, eh? Between Fable 3 (which glitched on me too, requiring me to delete a character with 20 hours logged onto it) and New Vegas I think I'm going to hold off on buying any new releases on their launch dates in the future and wait for them to either hit the Game of the Year/ Platinum Hits rack or the bargain bin. If I can't wait that lonag at the very least I'm going to do some homework before spending and making sure any game I purchase is, at the very least, playable. Shame really, I'm a Bethesda really devoted fan, going back to Call of Cthulhu and, didn't mind shelling out 60 bucks to support one of the better game studios. Live and learn.

I think the best advice I will give myself for the future is to only purchase on release date if the game has undergone a public beta test, rather than one that is rushed in a bid to avoid competing with better quality, complete, tested games.

That's exactly what I'm going to do in future as well. FNV was literally the first game I preordered in years. Haven't even played it yet, not prepared to take the chance, I'm waiting for the patch to come out, and then I'm going to wait for all the other gamers to play-test the new patch, and only then will I actually risk playing it. But I'm with you, in future I'm going to wait a year and get the patched, working GOTY version instead.

Big "me too" from me, too. I'm not a huge hardcoe gamer, since marriage, employment, and two kids turn out to be a pretty full-time job for me, so I try to pick my games with care. I've pre-ordered three games this year, which is three more than I've ordered in the last two years. I got lucky with two of those pre-orders: Red Dead Redemption didn't give me any bugs or problems that I can remember, nor did Halo:Reach. I fully expected Reach to be solid, since I haven't experienced any serious bugs on any Bungie titles. RDR was a bit more of a leap of faith, but then I'm old-fashioned enough to believe that software should be pretty much finished and usable by the time it's released, so I didn't worry about it.

But man, I won't take that chance again. Now that I've been burned by FO:NV, and now that I'm reading so many posts about how it appears to be becoming the industry standard to just release a game without thorough testing and eventually release a patch addressing most of the major bugs once enough people have complained about them...

My gaming time is relatively short. I can't be bothered fiddling with a broken or unfinished game experience. No more pre-releases for me, except maybe from companies whose testing and QA record demonstrates a high degree of launch reliability, like Bungie's.

Having said all that, I'm still having fun with FO:NV. I'm trying to avoid progressing too far in the main story until the Big Patch comes out, but it's hard to resist doing a few side quests here and there to pass the time while I wait. I certainly understand the desire to hold off on even starting the game until it's patched, thus preserving the good aspects of the game experience and avoiding the frustration of seeing hours or days of hard work eradicated by something as dumb as the DLC bug. Hard work? Okay, I mean fun, but it's still a heavy investment of time and attention plus a certain amount of grinding that you don't really want to have to repeat unnecessarily. Part of me wants to put it down completely until the patch is out. But another part of me thinks, "As long as I have my Old Cowboy Hat and avoid the Come Fly With Me quest, maybe I can still run around the Mojave and have some fun." And honestly, that voice is hard to resist.

Can't deny I'm finding it incredibly hard to not play FNV. F3 is probably my most second favourite game of all time, second only to Oblivion. So yeah, big test of patience! But I'm sure it'll be so worth it in the end.

Anyway, with the Fallout series becoming so massive following the deserved success of Fallout 3, I would imagine that this FNV farce has hurt the games industry as a whole, at least in a small way. Many people (me included) won't ever buy a preordered game again, regardless of the game developer, and will instead choose to wait a few months or even a year, by which time the game will be available new for a lot less money, or could even just be bought preowned, meaning that the developers will make less money from their games. Bethesda and Obsidian's reputations have obviously been hit hard by this, which I'm sure at least one of them (Bethesda) will be concerned about. I can't imagine that reputable companies such as Bungee would want to work with either of them on a future game, should the opportunity arise for any reason.

Because of this, I'm hoping that their attitude will not be "we've got their money so let's move onto the next game". My suggestion to Bethesda and Obsidian would be to make sure that this very long-awaited patch is kept as an extremely high priority, and that it is being worked on and tested thoroughly, so that they can restore their reputations within the industry, and we gamers can have a great time playing the latest Fallout game which I'm sure we will all thoroughly enjoy.

People are certainly up in arms about the LOAD of bugs that FO:NV has myself included (DLC bug) but, I think we the gamers put far too much faith in how much our consumer opinions really matter to the billion dollar companies that manufacture these games. Every review I have seen on FO:NV has not even come close to representing the angst felt by buying a 60+ dollar paperweight. It is my opinion that the people responsible wont care unless it affects their own bank statement, and with 8+ reviews everywhere I just don't see that happening.
BEHOLD THE FUTURE OF THE GAMING INDUSTRY where not only do you take on the role as your character but also the Beta testers as well!
