After some reading, I like their design choices.
Warring factions and mercenary approach is something what I've always wanted to game like this. The hard choice is if I join DCMS or form my own mercenary company with my friends.

I can't describe how excited I'm right now. :ahhh:

I'm very excited. So excited that I posted "I just want to celebrate" twice on the Mektek forums! :D

By the way, you wouldn't happen to be Mechwarrior Highlander from the Mektek forums, would you?

Nope, I have same account name there as I do here. :)

I've been inactive for a long time, official Battletech forums is where I hang for all Battletech related.

Okay, you and he just happen to be using the Draconis Combine symbol.

Since our key platform is the PC, it only makes sense to really bring the simulation control system back for seasoned players, with the option to have easy access configurations for newer players. When dealing with controls, we really want to bring skill back into combat rather than heavily assisted combat as seen in most modern day first person shooters. The interface between the MechWarrior? and the BattleMech is being revisited as well. A new 3D HUD system is being designed for the neurohelmet pilot information display. The view point of the game is from the pilot (MechWarrior?’s) point of view. Players will be able to look around their cockpit and even customize the interior to suit their tastes.

I can't describe how giddy this paragraph makes me feel. A 3D hud based around you actually BEING the pilot? Oh god, that's so awesome.

I'm so happy this is PC exclusive. Not to hate on our console brethren, but I didn't want the chance of a badly done port happening.

Bringing back skill? Focus on simulation? Its like the developers read our freaking MINDS. This couldn't get better, I swear it can't.

Summer 2012 can't come fast enough.

Yeah, I would sacrifice entire Skyrim launch just to get my hands on this faster!

I'm don't miss singleplayer campaing that much.

Dev Blog had mention about Artemis IV sub mutions for LRM's. That is another thing I've waited, which is more indepth customization compared to MW4.
Not that MW4 had bad customization for online multiplayer game, it kept mechs more balanced compared to MW2 and MW3.

edit: But yeah. Focus on simulation and bringing back the feel what Battletech is all about is great. I've feared for moment that this would be another MechAssault.

edit2: Weird, I cannot compose new posts on official MWO forums...

Its actually scary. I just finished reading Blog Post 0 and it seemed that PGI was pretty darn close to not being able to get anything done with Mechwarrior, let alone their business. I hadn't realized just how important Duke Nukem had been for them.

Indeed.

I had my hopes high after PGI got their hands on Duke Nukem, and actually releasing it. That they would deliver us MechWarrior game.

I'll be piloting my Phoenix Hawk, doing the scouting. And harasing those slow assaults in concrete jungle.

I'm very excited that they wanted to make the game have distinct combat roles (like Mechwarrior never really had but always should have!). I'm very excited about being able to actually be a scout and a commander. I definitely will be playing either scout or commander, raining down destruction on the battlefield using raw information alone.

Absolutely. When I saw the title MechWarrior: Online I started cursing at my monitor for Battletech going the way of KotOR. But the part you quoted, combined with the quote from the faq below actually makes this sound really good!

Q. Will DLC be offered in the new MechWarrior? Online? game?

A. Not in the way that you imagine it. Content will be pushed to you via the game patcher. Once a patch has been applied, new game content is immediately available to you. Larger patches could be considered expansion packs but again, it's pushed to you the player at no cost.

Post-release content available in free patches? Hell yeah! Feels like I just travelled ten years back in time, you don't see that too often these days.

Apparently the paid content is purely cosmetic and offers no tactical advantages, let's pray it remains that way. I would hate it if this game became like APB, where you barely stand a chance unless you pay for overpowered weapons.

Disappointing that it's online. It'll sit alongside Hawken in the "great looking mech games I won't play" category. Still, I realize why they did it and it's good news for fans regardless. Guess I'll just go back to praying that Armored Core V doesn't stink. -_-

What's your issue with online? Bad internet or is it having to play with others?

Just not a multiplayer person. I've always been entirely about singleplayer games.

Understandable.

The developers did say they were considering doing a singleplayer campaign for the game after it launched.

More information released!
It’s really about making sure that we overcome some of the problems or challenges that some of the past games had. And one of those, frankly, is as Bryan said, it’s an arms race. Some of that was due to the technology limitations at the time. With the wide-open terrain maps, it would quickly degrade into everyone has one of a couple different Mechs decked in one of two different ways.

And you’re laughing because you know just what I mean. And we’re just determined to make sure that the lance unit needs to be well-balanced. And you said it yourself: there’s going to be opportunities for that light scout Mech to become such a valuable member of that lance, for him to go ahead through terrain that he can be well-protected in, find out where the enemies are, and relay that information back to his lance mates. And that’s just one example of one class and role of Mech, and how they’re going to become useful to their lance.

So, in an ideal world, a well-balanced lance would have one of each weight class, and one of each role, and there’s going to be limitless ways of composing your lance. But the best lance is not going to be four 100-ton Assault Mechs.

Poor Lyrans. No more 4 Atlas recon groups! :P

This is super cool! I'm a big fan of the Classic Battletech tabletop game (which in my opinion is a HUGELY underrated system and mythos) and I'm glad to see it's getting another game, even if it is MMO.

I'm still waiting for Mechwarrior 5 to come out or an arcade-style game based on Classic Battletech. One day..... One day.........

Goodbye, Mechwarrior reboot. You sounded so promising until now.

I loved the sound of a game earlier in the Sucession Wars with the ability to co-op the campaign. It's basically the Mechwarrior game I've wanted for years. But an MMO? No thanks. If I want to play BT online that badly, I've got MegaMek.

To be frank, it does sound less like World of Warcraft and more like World of Tanks ... which is an awesome and fun game, really.

But I'll still wait and see, despite being a bit BattleTech fan. :)

Devs have stated that there will not be singleplayer campaign on release. But AFAIK, they said something about possibility of adding one later... or was it speculation on fan side...

Yeah, we did. And for honor of MW:O we should do it again. Maybe run some appropriate games set on that timeline :)
