The First Law is effectively a less complicated (which is actually good thing) and more character focused version of ASOIAF, and bloody awesome at that.

Heh, great. I also believe I've read somewhere that Abercrombie's writing another book set in the same universe, and that it's coming out late 2012. I think it's called "A Red Country", or something.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Name_of_the_Wind and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wise_Man%27s_Fear are more about magic rather than assassination, but they are still dark novels with mature themes and you would probably enjoy them. A lot.
These are fantastic books.

I don't know many games like this, but the Night Angel trilogy matches your description pretty well. They are really mature, though.
Dammit I was gonna say that...however it does have a little bit of magic and some over the top parts, but they don't take away from the novels, they add to them.

I read the trilogy in 3 days because I spent most of free time struggling to put them down lol

I don't mind a bit of magic... or even a hearty helping of it. Just no mainstream video game theatrics is all. lol
