Melee Question

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:33 am

Huge apologies if this has been discussed already since release, but I've been reading/following the boards for the last month or so, and since release haven't been able to find confirmation. I remember reading about how melee would be able to target specific body parts in VATS in New Vegas, but haven't been able to do it so far. I think I've gotten it to thirty or forty or so, so maybe it's something that can be done if you get high enough, but so far no luck. Anybody know if this is the case? Or was I just misremembering that it had been said this would be implemented?

It's in the game manual that melee hits cannot target specific parts.

Ah, huge bummer. Am I mistaken that at some point it was claimed that we'd be able to do this?

Yeah, I remember reading that, at certain levels, you will get new melee animations that say things like "FORE" when you hit someone with a golf club. I swore that I read somewhere that NV had improved melee vats options, etc. Are we saying that melee is the same as it was in FO3?

Other than some special moves, yeah I guess so. Was really hoping to target specific parts though, maybe they wanted to, but it just didn't work out.l

I only read that Melee weapons would have a special attack, such as Fore for with the golf club as you mentioned. I've been using a lead pipe and switch blade so far, and don't see those options, but perhaps you have to earn them? I never saw anything about targeting specific body parts though.

The two main differences that I saw in the game from Fallout 3 was the control you have over your companions and new melee moves depending on your melee skill. If you have a high enough melee skill you can do customized moves in VATS based on the weapon. The one that they mentioned was a move called Fore! using the golf club— you basically line up like a normal golf shot and swing your club at them. If it hits it pops the enemy into the air and they fall down on the ground and are stunned for a short time.
