My name is Evan, and I'm a huge fan of Fallout 3. I own all the DLC, and bought the collectors edition of the game. I think that it’s the greatest game I’ve ever played. Being a massive fan of Fallout 3, I had been on the lookout for news of any new Fallout related games coming up in the future. Then, finally, word that the game would be set in “New Vegas”, several months later, news of the date that the first trailer for the game would drop. I got on my computer to watch it as soon as I got home from school, hopping online to view the trailer, several times. I, of course, put a pre-order on the game as soon as I had the cash. Since teenagers are fairly destitute and have little source of income (maintaining a 4.0 GPA really doesn’t give me a ton of time to have a job), it took me a few weeks to scrounge up the $60. As soon as I got the game, I installed it on my Xbox 360, ready and eager to play. Quite giddy actually, like a little kid. Then, I began the game. As I progressed through the newest iteration of Fallout, I began to notice a few minor glitches; my character’s arms disappearing, the game’s frame rate stuttering, nothing really affecting the gameplay. A patch was issued a few days later, which I, of course, downloaded. Then came major issues. Among the most irritating being that my companions would suddenly disappear, still being listed as companions, but totally gone. I found some minor fixes (waiting, and fast traveling), but as of right now, two of my companions have vanished, and after another hour or so of gameplay without their return, I am extremely frustrated. I really do think that this is an awesome game, but it is a fundamentally broken game. Sure, a few games have made me rage quit before, but those rage quits weren’t caused by bugs that the developer left in. I’m completely aware that Bethesda Softworks is the publisher, not the developer, but I think Bethesda is 50% of the problem here (Obsidian is the other 50%). The point of this rather lengthy post is really to say that as a customer, I will defiantly think twice before I purchase your games in the future, and that I will never pre-order any of your games again. You guys really let a fan down.
Here’s to many many more patches and bug fixes in the future,
Your customer,
-Evan
