Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection

So the HD collection of Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, and Peace walker are coming for 50$ to the 360 and PS3. Release date set for November 8th. (Same day as MW3)

Personally, I'm excited about the news. I loved MGS1 and 2. Never played 3 or Peace walker, but I'm excited about it. However, they aren't including a remake of the original game. Why not just throw that in there too? Still gonna pick it up though. Stack this on with the original Halo remake, and I'll be reliving some memories this Christmas. (Along with Skyrim and Battlefield 3 :))

What does everyone think? Are you excited about this?

I never got the chance to get into MGS, but I've played the MGS3 demo and I loved it. This seems like the perfect opportunity to get into it. I've also watched a livestream of MGS2. I wonder if that easter egg with the projector in the first level of MGS2 will still be there?

On another note, it seems like a good year for remakes, doesn't it?

I've played the remake of the original MGS for gamecube, and all the easter eggs were intact. Hopefully this trend will continue.

It does seem like a good year for remakes. There is also news of Silent Hill and some very unconfirmed rumors of a Final Fantasy collection as well. I rather enjoy these, they really stand up to the modern AAA titles very well. It really shows how innovative these titles were.

Why does the packaging always look so hideous with these HD collections? May sound silly, but that's exactly why I steer clear of 'em. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus got a http://storage.siliconera.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/image41.png HD collection in Japan. I especially like that each game comes on a separate disc with original box art. I shudder to think what we'll get over here. :meh:

Anywho, I'll probably end up grabbing this just for Peace Walker on PS3. Metal Gear Solid are the only games that I cannot stand the PSP's nub in. Sneaking is near impossible with that thing.

Eh, I don't mind it. I like the stylized sort of graphic novel look.

In any case, it's nowhere near as bad as the Mass Effect 2 standard edition's box art over here in the US; not sure if it got different box art anywhere else.

Fantastic, resell us old PS2 games instead of giving us backwards compatibility. Yay.

They are backwards compatible. This collection seems to be more for people like me who have yet to get into the series or people who want to get back into the series with another coat of polish, that's all.

When did this happen? I'm pretty sure none of the models post-80gb play PS2 games (Though they'll play PS1 games ) unless they're repackaged in "HD" with a hefty price tag. I must have missed the big news. True, it's a good deal for people who have never played MGS, or no longer own their PS2 MGS titles, but I still don't exactly condone such an obvious grab for extra money.

Oh, I wasn't aware of that, sorry about that.

That's what I get for being a 360 user who just goes by a list, heh.

Shame too, it's not as if it would be too much work. Heck, just about every noteworthy PS2 title was playable on the PS3 models with partial software emulation, I refuse to believe that a full emulation solution was impossible.

I understand it may seem like a money grab, but personally I'm getting the 360 version. I haven't had the chance to play 3, and 2 had some stuttering with it's emulation on the 360, so I'm excited for it.

The MGS Wiki says that 2 and 3 will run at 60 FPS, but the comparison screenshots are the size of postage stamps so I can't really get anything from those.

EDIT: I've looked on IGN for some screenshots. It looks okay. Of course, it's not going to stand up to a modern title considering that they're cramming three games onto one disc, but you can definitely spot the improvements right away.

The first MGS is awesome. But I really didn't like MGS2 and I can't say I'm particulary motivated to replay MGS3 either (even though it was noticeably better than MGS2), so if I get this collection it's only for Peace Walker which I never played but that won't happen until it's really cheap.

They really should have included Twin Snakes HD in this collection. Also, seeing it's the Subsistence version of MGS3, I hope it includes the first two Metal Gear games in their 2D pixel glory.

I would have been much happier if Konami had announced a Suikoden HD Collection instead :P

Twin Snakes is not a very good remake. And they said that just giving the orignal MGS the same treatment(HD resolution) as mgs2 and 3 for this wouldn't look very good. And if they do make MGS1 for HD consoles they wouldn't do a port, they would do a remake. I also hope it contains the first two Metal Gear games, but I don't think so. I belive they chose the subsistence version becuase it has an option for free camera controlls.

I haven't played a single MGS game, since I had an original xbox. Worth it then?

Yeah, but Twin Snakes wasn't developed by konami. It would stand out like a sore thumb by the others. :P

SOLD!!

Out of those, MGS3 is my favourite. Contemplating doing a crazy MGS Marathon when that comes out now. Probably in the order of MGS3, Peace Walker, MGS1, MGS2 and MGS4.

Same. I hope Subsistence does include the original 2 games, then I can play through the whole series. :D

Excellent, thanks! I'll look around for it when it comes out. I always love things like this, with more than one game on the disc. It's too bad that the first game isn't on it though, I heard the MGS series is known for its crazy plot, how confused will I be without playing the original game?
