Microstutter problem. Is there a fix?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 2:44 am

Hello all. I had another topic about my ingame camera being jittery and found that the correct word was microstutter. Is there a fix for this? I have tried everything.... I have great specs and dont know why I still get the stutter.... It is very bad when in rooms or caves.

MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.40GHz
8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz
AMD Radeon HD 6850
488 GB HDD

Thos are my general specs.

Can someone pleaaassee help me and show me a fix!

Did you try ENB patch? Not sure your microstutter is the same as mine, but it worked for me. In my case it was like frame skipping when I looked in the direction of certain NPCs. The NPCs didn't have to be visible, so if in a cave there was one NPC a mile away who caused this I would get the stuttering whenever I looked in his direction. A good example is Belethor from Belethor's General Goods in Whiterun, I always got the stuttering when I looked at him. Anyway, here is the link, it's worth a try I guess:

EDIT: I disabled all options but the BSOD fix, which is the fix that removed the microstutter for me. All the fixes enabled caused some minor performance decrease (about 10%), but with only this fix enabled the performance doesn't decrease.

That's strange... You're the first I've seen whom that didn't work for. Have you got vsync on? Vanilla game with no ENB patch or mods?

The borderless window mod fixed this issue for me (stuttery camera in indoor locations, especially near lightsources).

Are you sure you are using it properly? Did you set windowed mode in your Skyrim launcher options? Are you launching the game using the mods launcher?

Hey all, I have used everything and still it does not work. The only thing that somewhat works is dxtory... and that works very slightly...

Valien, I did it all correctly and still it did not work.

Do you have dual GPUs? I was under the impression that micro stutter is a fact of life when below 60 FPS with dual GPU systems.

Try turning off v-sync, i had micro stutter in every game for ages before i tried turning it off. Screen tearing is irritating but i found the stutter worse :dry: This might not be it but worth a try anyway!

You definately shouldn't turn off vsync despite what everyone and their mum's been recommending.

I get a weird stuttering too sometimes and don't know what causes it.
Last place I remember getting it was the Atronach Forge under the Mage's College.
It felt like the camera was moving over a washboard.

(single card only) ENB skyrim patch 6 gpu, ipresentinterval=1

or

(single card or crossfire) dxtory locked to 59fps, ipresentinterval=1

both will remove any microstutter issues, dont take ipresentinterval off

also download "tesv acceleration layer" and SKSE

I'm able to have perfectly smooth FPS everywhere in game at 2560x1440 2xAA 16xAF, ultra everything, shadows on high

2600k@4.9Ghz, 2*6950 2GB, G.skill 2133Mhz RAM, 120GB HyperX sata 3 SSD, RDAC+(headphone amp)+grado SR125i

use the 12.1preview drivers if you use AMD http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Catalyst121Previewdriver.aspx

Thanks Justinian I saw your post. I still want to know how to turn vsync off because it seems different things work for different people... No moderator or admin has tried to help by putting out a set instruction on how to take out microstutter...

To turn off vsync, go to my documents > my games > skyrim and find the skyrim.ini file. Open up in notepad and add:

iPresentInterval=0

As the last line under "display" section.

You'll want to find yourself a framerate limiter to prevent the game going wonky, and that's where other stuff goes wrong. Anyway, play around with it and good luck!

No. Same Dir as above but edit the skyrimprefs.ini then find and change iPresentInterval=1
0=off
1=on

Sorry, wasn't aware of the desynchronisation issues. Damn looks like im gonna have to deal with the v-sync stutter now anyway or the games gonna screw up some scripts :/ Beth must use that as some kind of a timer like tic rate in the quake 3 engine.
