Is it just me or is it kinda embarrassing to be picking up New Vegas at midnight? Maybe I need to come to grips of with my inner nerd.

My gamespot is just right next door to this bar I go to sometime. I could only imagine running into one of my friends and outside and having to explain that I’m picking up a video game at its midnight release. Would feel like your caught walking out of pormo shop.

I guess I’ll feel better when I’m back home gaming. T-minus 1 hr 30 min Yipppeee.

Not really. It shouldn't be embarrassing to pick up a game you may enjoy at an earlier time than usual.

I've never done the midnight release thing since we don't have 24 hour shopping where I live, but I feel nerdy even going into Gamestop/EB Games.

Why would it be an embarrassment? Have self confidence that you're buying something you want to enjoy. I mean really now, maybe it's because there seems to be this big anti-videogame stigma in the US, but in Canada no one cares.

I CANT PLAY THE GAME , when installing it it says this game hasnt been released yet. I am a pc player and this game uses steam to load any suggestions

Of course you can't. Steam has it locked until 12am PST(3am EST).

Why would it be? I take my girlfriend and we have a blast, she hates video games but she goes for me ;]

I don't think I could bring myself to go to a midnight release for any game, but that's because I work too much and video games are just a diversion from all the BS I have to do. So I don't have a problem waiting until it's shipped to me, or I happen to be walking through a store that sells games.

However, I am really jealous of you guys who are so passionate about this stuff. I wish I had something in my life I was that passionate about.

Heck no. If I had a midnight release anywhere near me I'd see if some ladies from the quilting club wanted to go to the opening with me and whoop it up in the parking lot until time to get it. Then we could go off to some all night diner in Fairbanks and have some coffee and breakfast before heading back home on the two hour drive home. We'd have a blast.

Off topic : I got a melt banana split w/ spazz, it rules. The melt banana side more so. Judging by your avatar you've probably heard it.

I went, I was smiling all the way there, smiled when Iw as there. smiled as I left.
Smiled as I drove home knowing I likely can't play cause its not unlocked.

Smiled after steam told me no "its not out yet".

Had a good time reading the comic, loved the new box smell.

Now I think its bed time.

First midnight launch I ever done, I had fun.

Thats all that matters, its just a game.

im just picked mine up, after waiting in line for a good 35 minutes amongst other nerds :wink_smile: lots of people go to midnight launches, if anticipating a game is nerdy then i've never been happier to have that title. i wear my nerdiness on my sleeve and im not embarassed to admit/show it :thumbsup: also, since i have indeed picked up my copy i probly won't be visiting the boards for at LEAST 6-7 days =) so hope you make the right decision....GET IT NOW! and see the rest of you guys in a week or so :fallout:

Bigger question is why are we enforced to go thru steam with the game we bought in retailer store whats the point to pick it midnight when it still has 1 more hour till release today !

Who cares? Most "normal" people aren't fun anyways. I used to go to midnight releases at record stores years back and I'd love to pick up FNV on the 19/20th (my time) but Bethesda is lame and wants to make the entire world wait until Friday.

Newsflash: the whole world doesn't live in your time zone.

It's unbelievable that some people are so incensed by having to wait just a few extra hours; try actually living in PST when you have to wait those extra hours EVERY TIME something you want to get at midnight comes out... For once, we west coasters get to share in the experience with east coasters rather than have to wait while our friends across the plains are enjoying them... It's not like we get it before you, you just don't get it before us for once. Is that too much for you to sacrifice though? :shakehead:


As for the topic at hand, no, it's absolutely not embarrassing in the slightest. If anything it's more embarrassing for me to walk in in broad daylight, because if I go at midnight, I know anyone else I see is equally stoked to get the game. For a tight game like Fallout, no one will judge you for getting it any time of day, whereas many Nintendo games are a bit awkward for a college student to buy. Like when I bought SoulSilver, I felt like some other shoppers saw what I was buying and gave me furtive, disapproving glances. Not that it bothered me, but I definitely noticed it. I don't expect that to happen with Fallout though, because it's the type of game is directed toward my demographic.

Ultimately, you can't be embarrassed by anything you do unless you allow yourself to believe it's abnormal/inappropriate, and if you care that other people you don't know might judge you for that.

Don't be embarrassed people! I wish there was a local midnight release round here, I would be there in a flash. The last time I ever stayed up to get something was to get a Furby - and I had to pester my parent to take me all the way to London to get it. Now THAT'S embarrassing.

The store I went to asked lots of fallout trivia questions and gave prizes to the people who got it right. I got an NCR t-shirt, halo wallet, some viking figurine, a huge fable 3 poster that looks like it could cover an average sized door, and a sonic the hedgehog wig/headwarmer thing. I've decided that I'm gonna wear the weird sonic wig thing if I'm ever road raging in order to terrify my passengers.

BTW I'm super happy with the game. It's too big to really give a full review. But I'm enjoy the simplified reload/workbench things. And I like the mininum requirements actually showing up in speech challenges. Combat seems a little more fast paced even using VATS, And I like how it seems more like characters are interacting more instead of being static and waiting on you to talk to them. Fallout 3 was creepy in that everyone would stop and look right at you and talk to you when they were merely walking past you in a hallway or something.
