MiMi - Multiple Install Management Interface

MIMI is a new take on managing multiple game installs. MIMI is a small application with a powerful punch that will ease the confusion of trying to manually switch between two or more game setups.

Multiple installs are becoming an increasingly popular trend. For anyone who has ever wanted to have a testing environment without messing with their current install, this is for you. MIMI will create and manage each completely separate game setup. Best of all, MIMI will swap out these installs with a click of a button. No more manually renaming folders!

MiMi supports multiple Bethesda games through the use of XML files. These XML files holds the information for each of the separate games and MiMi will make use of them depending on the game you're managing at the time

Image Management:
  • Swap
  • New
  • Import
  • Delete
  • Rename
  • Release
Launch Options:
  • Game
  • Creation Kit
  • BOSS
  • Wrye Bash
  • Oblivion Mod Manager/Skyrim Mod Manager (When released)
Tools:
  • Import MoM's Images - A simple way of upgrading MOM > MIMI. MIMI takes all the hard work out of upgrading your Install Management.

Congratulations. I'm glad you started on this so soon after skyrim was released. I'm looking forward to it when the CK comes out especially.

So do we know yet if our installs can be moved without resorting to editing the registry or anything root related?

I know that Steam only is attached to the launcher, but will it mess up the launcher to move the game?

Had this planned before Skryim's release :D

Since Skryim's setup is very similar to OB ect, you should be able to swap them out without any system edits. Just need to make sure the install gets named and placed inside Steam's folders correctly.

Swapping out installs shouldn't affect the launcher in anyway.

I see that http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1221695-relz-mom-multiple-oblivion-manager/page__view__findpost__p__19823603 on the Oblivion mods forum.

After the second official patch which required the launcher and steam be accessed I thought this would perhaps not be workable, but then the advances in the 4gb patch which bypasses the launcher made me think otherwise.

But with the next official patch there may not be a need for the 4gb patch, so any plans to continue on with this?

I appreciate the work being done on this. Are you and Hana both working on this?

I have no doubt this will be indispensable. Separating Morrowind installations was as easy as copy and pasting to a new drive but Skyrim has Steam issues. Following this topic with interest.

Wow, how'd I miss those posts?

Honestly I'd thought about scrapping, seemed to me there was no interest in this, but then I missed the posts here  . I did make quite a bit of progress before though.

Yes it was me and Hana, MIMI was her idea (same with MOM) :lmao:

I'd be very interested in this as well - and might even clean off my hard drive just to install it. :) (Of course, that cleaning would unfortunately include MOM and three Oblivion installs . . . hmmm).

I just learned about it. I'd support it and use it. :)

I must say, this is a great idea. It certainly beats how I managed multiple Oblivion installs back when I helped beta test a few mods (essentially, I had two different installations of Windows: one that I actually used day-to-day and had my real Oblivion install on that I actually played with, and the other was a bare-bones fresh install with just Oblivion and the mod(s) being tested). Needless to say, it was a little time-consuming to manage. :P

So how would this work, I thought of it something like:

Three roommates share a computer with Skyrim

Each Roommate has different tastes in mods.

Roommate A loves lore friendly mods, and model retexs

Roommate B loves wacky comical mods that are lore unfriendly

Roommate C is a Pervert who's mod choices reflect that lifestyle

Basically, Roommate A could play with his mods and then Roommate B could "switch" to his mods, likewise with RM C. And they would never have to deal with lose files or Roommate A finding something awful about what Roommate C does to Lydia.

Sounds like a great tool. I'd be waiting until my hard-drive reformat (getting a new processor soon :D) to use it but man this sounds like it would really come in handy.

I do a lot (lol, overexageration :P) of texture work and obviously I want to show it off. However I use FXAA and imagespace mods with my game and it changes the look from vanilla. This will come in real handy to show off my textures in a "clean" environment.

For those interested in an available alternative to MiMi, there is a functional, released version of http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19034 available for download right now. Cheers!

That's the great thing about TESA and their staff, InsanitySorrow included. They're always there when you need them and they are completely fair. If you have a problem, just let them know!
