Mining Trick (Dual-wielding pickaxes)

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 11:25 pm

So it turns out you can mine at a much faster rate by equipping a pickaxe and attacking a vein, instead of interacting with it as you usually would. You can also dual-wield pickaxes to speed up the process even more.

Haha, damn it!

I'm now frantically googling to see if I'm saying it wrong or just 'differently'...

Nice tip. I thought we would have to wait for a PC mod to fix the mining animations.

I am sure it is just the British pronounciation.

Ah I see!

I have to double check these things after a childhood of pronouncing the word 'monster': Munn-stir. For which, I blame the snack Monster Much almost entirely.

A better trick is to: mine - stop the animation after you get one ore - mine again. You'll get 3 instead of 2. ;)

Fun fact about pickaxes in Skyrim: if you have one equipped but still activate an ore vein, the animation creates a temporary copy of your pickaxe. You have one on your belt, and another in your hand as your are mining. This happens even if you only have one pickaxe in your inventory and it is equipped.

At least the ore does not yell..."I yield! I yield!"

Fun, but why? I mean is it worth carrying 2 pickaxes just to save a few seconds?

Heh, you do have a cute accent.

I knew about attacking a vein, but hadn't thought to dual wield. I love the Bound Pickaxe spell in the Midas Magic mod. No more lugging them around. That's how my mage is financing her education, combined with Transmute and enchanting jewelry.

On PS3 also? You sure? I think I was just getting 2 before I was taught that trick. I'll check on something inexpensive like iron. :P

OK, I just tried it on iron ore veins. The "X" button (PS3) didn't initiate the mining (it's been acting weird when I've tried to sit lately too - damn bugs) so I attacked it with the pickaxe and I got 3 per vein.

Edit: Got 3 with the "X" button too. :P Sweet, thanks.

also try this mod, it will let you mine them in 3 strikes instead of 9. but note it wont work on soul gem producing geode mines.
