I miss pre 1.5 smithing

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 12:47 pm

I know a lot of people smithed a bunch if daggers to boost Smithing to 100 but I miss that it was easier to raise the skill. I never boosted it or smithed mass amounts of daggers or other items. When I found a dwarven sword I would grind little by little until I could smith dwarven gear. When I found a orcish cuirass I did it again I grind it little by little doing quests and raiding dungeons and then I would be able to Smith orcish gear. I never made it to daedric because I never found and daedric gear.

Now it's really boring trying to get Smithing up enough to smith all of this gear. I mean why would I need to sjittyh more than one set of gear for my self. I think they should have left armorer in. That would have made more sense.

Anybody else feel the same way?

Yeah, they slightly over done it. You need to smith item value of around 500k to get to 100. Look on the bright side, it now forces you to use smithing trainers.

Not necessarily. It just pushes you into using jewelery (high cost) and dwarven (decent cost, easy accessibility) and the Ancient Knowledge perk early on helps.

But can you imagine someone without the prowler's profit perk to be able craft jewerly of any worth?

On the other side, the new system breaks economy even more because all that junk must be either sold or dropped somewhere.
Item wear due to usage should be brought back. This way, smithing can be increased in an easier way and people who don't use it will have a new money sink.

You'd be surprised just how much crap you pick up.

Not enough to level smithing to 100 in a hurry. You'll need 300 flawlees diamond to level smithing to 100. I don't believe you are going to get that unless you play over 300 hours with one toon.

Never had a problem smithing to get to 100, usually just ran around killing all the animals that in could, always mining, making new armor to sell and selling the old stuff, mining and of course supporting my local blacksmith. That and ending up with like 200 iron daggers to enchant.;) easy money

Or console commands.

I noticed myself using trainers more often for smithing, too.

Get out... seriously (or not). It's not a "toon", it's an avatar

I don't actually see the problem with smithing being nerfed the way it has. It's now more roleplay friendly and harder for people with a min/max mindset to grind it then complain about how the game is broken.

Actually the correct term is PC. Avatar is something you haven't got.

av·a·tar/?av??t?r/
Noun:
  • A manifestation of a deity in bodily form on earth.
  • An incarnation, embodiment, or manifestation of a person or idea

What is a PC is if it's not a graphical manifestation of a person or idea?

according to wiki the ancient knowledge effect has been patched where instead of raising the blacksmith skill more quickly, it boosts your skill like the enchantments to smith better

you can thank all the power level whiners for the changes to blacksmithing, now us normal players have to grind daggers..

Might be of my what?

This isn't even on topic. I say "get out" in a sort of half joking manner because the term "toon" annoys me. If the avatars/PCs were cell shaded, I would be more accepting of "toon", but they're not. Most people just ignore me when I say, and nothing more gets said. That's fine by me, I just can't resist saying it in the first place.

Back on topic; I haven't really tried smithing since the 1.5 patch, but I'll leave my mage playthrough and go back to my blacksmith so I can get a better idea of how the new system works.

And the term avatar annoys me. It's no different, to me, than toon. In my book the correct term is character (I'll settle for Jo Soo's PC).

Avatars are what is displayed to the left of our posts in this forum.

Personally I think the whole smithing skill is a crock, as it stands the skill is just an alternate method of aquiring gear and now with the nerf it is kind of useless as by the time you raise the skill to the level at which you can smith good gear you will probably have already obtained it through other methods. If Bethesda are serious about having a smithing skill in future games then they really need to upgrade and expand the skill to be more than just an alternate method of obtaining and upgrading gear.

Character is the term I use the most. But an avatar is not just a square image. The term avatar is derived from the Sanskrit word Avatara meaning "incarnation" or "descent, as of a deity from heaven to Earth". In a 3D gaming world, you are the god and your character is your incarnation in that world. Therefore, avatar is a perfectly acceptable word to describe a player made, and controlled, character.

Personally, I think it shouldn't have any affect on your level and the quality of the item you create should be determined by your fatigue levels; which in turn should decrease with each item made by an amount dependent on th size and ease of making said item

Personally, I love smithing right now.
With my second char, I'm lvl 33, smithing 79...I mined the ores, smelted the ingots, raided some Dwarven ruins to get the materials, gained acces to Orcish camps just to mine their orichalcum...I'm really enjoying it.

With my frist char I just crafted OVER9000 iron daggers just to craft me Dragon Armor at lvl 49, after beating the game...

The only reason I got smithing up as high as I could was to be able to make Daedric armor. And the only reason I needed to make it was because I couldn't find it or buy it anywhere. I'd be happy enough being able to purchase the stuff from my local armorer and never have to do smithing at all.

Yeah my character is in the low 40s and her smithing is in the high 70s, and ive only been smithing mostly on stuff that I've found. I imagine if I was hellbent on getting it to 100 I'd spend quite a bit of time adventuring to do so.

Did they fix Ancient Knowledge? Last I played, it didn't do anything the help-text suggests. It boosted all armor ratings by 25%, and had a Fortify Smithing buff (Like a potion or gear) as opposed to boosting the rate at which it increased.
