Missing abilities and useless magic.

There are 2 abilities you should be able to do in this game but cant. Also 2 magic spells that I find useless.

1.Skills/Abilities that you are unable to do.

The ability to jump while sprinting. Why cant you do this? Seems like it should be pretty basic to me.

The ability to attack while jumping/airborn. This again baffles me by not being included in the game.
I would love to jump off a ledge with a power attack and split my enemy right down the middle...or at least their head in two.

2. Two magic spells I find to be useless.

Candlelight/Magelight. I have not found one dungeon where I needed a light spell or torch. I remember on both Morrowind and Oblivion that some dungeons were very dark, you had serious problems if you didn't have a Torch, Light spell or Night Eye. The ONLY time I wished that I had light on this game is deep under water.

Telekenisis. I have always found this spell to be borderline useless in the Elder Scrolls series but, I would always find a way to at least do something with it. Now it is really useless in my book since it has the constant Magicka drain as you use it.
It might be a little more usefull if I specialized in Alteration and had huge amounts of Magicka to use I guess. My next character will be a mage but I don't think that will help much.

What do you guys think?

Please DON"T post about the million other skills that we all miss or find useless. Just comment on these specific skill/ablilities or lack of them

You should jump while you sprint: you should also be able to attack in air. I wish we had acrobatics back...

I have actually used candlelight and magelight in darker areas of dungeons I find those useful, I have not used telekinesis extensively, but it should stay in for roleplaying purposes.

Inability to use shouts while in the air is pretty bad as well. You should also be able to shout while knocked down, really, as they're your only defense during that time.

I remember first time I got become ethereal, tried to use it after jumping instead of before, /sighed when my character fell to his death because for what I assume there's no good reason for he couldn't use a shout while falling. Kind of odd since when falling shouting is one of the few things people can do.

I found candlelight to be useful after some visual mods that adjusted a number of settings including making dungeons/nights a fair amount darker, my real complaint there would be Bethesda's poor approach to lighting in general. The immovable and unusable candles and lanterns with obviously fake static lights are especially lame.

There has been times I was falling off a mountain and I tried to use become etheral on reflex and I cannot do it, I wish you could use shouts in air as well.

Oh god yes, same with the horses, they can jump really poorly when they're trotting, but when they actually go full speed they can't jump, which is even worse considering the actual animation seems to be based off a horse jumping on the run.

I just do not unde2rstand it at all. I guess we just chalk it up as poor design, because I find it easy to run in jump, you could do it in Morrwind and Oblivion and not Skyrim that is messed up.

You are right. I really should of said any attack whether physical or magical....However I never thought about shouts. Those would be great to use while knocked down like Odd Hermit suggested and airborn like Otheral said.

good replies everbody, keep them coming...don't you wish to take a sprinting nose dive off a waterfall like Laura Croft?
