Missing in action: thorald Grey-Mane

Post » Sat May 26, 2012 8:04 pm

ok so I just started this quest and I can't find any "clues" like my journal tells me to do.
I noticed there is a Battle-Born house...am I supposed to break in and find the clue? or is there an NPC I need to talk to?

thanks

If you answered Idolf (?) with 'Battle-Born' you can walk in without issue. In a locked interior room is a journal. Take it (not theft) and quest will advance.

Thats true. I have a problem however to get him out of jail peacefully. I have heard that you need to wear Legion armor to get him out peacefully. Can someone please let us know where that specific piece of armor can be found?

Dear Scarletian,

The peaceful way is a misunderstanding that rose in the first week of playing. It's impossible to not fail at the Sub-Objective "Find a way to release Thorald from Thalmor custody". What happens is that, because is shown as Failed, it seemed very counter-intuitive for the game mechanics to provide a Sub-Objective that'd fail, no matter what. So that threw a lot of players (myself included) nuts. Turns out that in more than one situation you bump into scenarios where an Objective will fail no matter what, the Official Guide ends up explaining that explicitly, which is confirmed by experience by several players from numerous sources (UESP Wiki, Wikia, Gamefaqs etc.).

The armor thing was just a myth, put out by players that love to say they done something that nobody else managed to do. No proof so far that it can be done, and 99,9% chance that it ever will. It's unfortunate, I was frustrated as well when I found out. I tried almost every type of armor combination possible, did Thalmor Embassy quest, searched their HQ, Embassy, did the Thalmor Quests.

So, it's Thalmor carnage no matter what.

Lol! Thanx, I just finished the Thalmor embassy. I sneaked past the guard in the back and was heartbroken when I saw FAILED! Dang. Thank you very much. Tonight it will be Thalmor blood staining the snow for sure. :P

as a test, I lock picked my way into the battle born house and found a note about the thorald, but the quest didnt update when i read it. i didnt ahve the quest activeely selected so i don't know if maybe that's why...but i didn't save my game because i was caught by a guard.

so what am I supposed to do? break into the house again, or what??

You're supposed to take the book, not just read it.

If it's daytime, you don't need to break in the house, only pick a lock on the door leading to the cabinet with the journal, the house gets locked only at nights.

Ah. I guess I shall have to slaughter some more Thalmor myself. I have left that quest alone for a long time because I didn't get what was supposed to happen to not fail it.
