Mixing and matching

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 2:36 pm

Do any of you guys like to mix and match armor pieces? I use to always go with the full set for whatever armor it was i was wearing, but then i found a new look for my character and decided to keep it. He is currently wearing a dragonplate helmet, dragonplate gauntlets, dragonplate boots, and an ebony mail. I find this so much more appealing than the full dragonplate set. Its not too "boney" like the dragonplate armor is in my opinion.

What do you guys do with your armor?

I'm wearing mismatched armor right now for my light armored character. Scaled armor, Elven gauntlets and boots, with a mage's hood. I'll use a dragon priest mask sometimes to utilize the +25% armor bonus for wearing a full suit of armor.

Gotta be all ebony with a Dwarven helmet for that bald eagle look. As modelled by Ahtar the Jailor (RIP)

Also the ebony and daedric hemets svck, so my battlemage Barbarossa is wearing a circlet of peerless illusion and her swordmaiden is wearing an orcish hemet of fortify archery with the ebony

I find at higher levels I just wear what I need. Then I swap out equipment as I need it. I tend to favor light armor because of the enchantments and because I can carry different sets of armor. Can't do this with Heavy Armor. But yeah, mismatched. I try to enchant the higest level of armor type, but like I said, whatever works well. At some point the armor rating is a moot stat compared to the enchantment.

I think all the armor looks cool in Skyrim. I hate fantasy armors where the level 70 Chick has a g-string on with a bikini and that is suppose to protect them from physical harm... I like how everything in skyrim, more or less, makes sense in the game world and is believable.

I've got Eola wearing a mix atm. Saviour's Hide, Predator's Grace boots, and Helmet of the Old Gods. Just need to find some decent gauntlets with an enchantment she can benefit from. The items all go together pretty well too.

My Imperial Knight is wearing the Imperial steel armour with the Imperial-horseman-helmet

Because I've not yet crafted much of my own armour I generally wear what I find. Currently I have Elven Boots of Hauling, Glass Gauntlets of Extreme Archery, a Leather Helmet of Archery (that I did craft...about time I changed it really), and Glass Armour. Doesn't look too bad I reckon. Prefer the Glass Armour to the Elven Gilded Armour, even though the latter gives more protection. Really though, I'm not that fussed what I look like.

More important to me is what my Companion's wearing. Am I alone in that if I give her, (it's generally either Lydia, Mjoll, Iona or Annekke), a Helmet which completely covers her face, I take it back off her and give her something that doesn't?!

I pretty much smith on all my non-mage characters, though I try to follow natural progression instead of abuse of the system. I usually make a full set cause I have an OCD about uniformity ><; lol. I cringe seeing mix match sets.

Haha i love some of the equipment your characters wear! I don't know why i just feel like whenever i wear the whole set it can get a little boring sometimes.

My main character (Redguard spellsword) wears dragonscale boots and gauntlets, Master robes of desctruction, and Morokei. My first assassin/thief ended up with a mix of Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild, and Nightingale armors. My mage only uses robes. Other characters have stuck to a set of armor, or wear a mix until they scrounge up a full set of matching armor. My Orc warrior used different types of steel armor until he pieced together a matching set of Orc armor to match his war axes.

I tend to nowadays, but I still don't like the fact that there's perks for four heavy or four light, but no perks for three, or just wearing four bits of armour.
