Mixing Armor Sets

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 5:19 am

Just out of curiosity, and for no particular cause or reason, how many people here mix there armor sets?

For example: you use fur bracers, but iron boots, and a hie shield.

Nothing is wrong with it of course, but I just can't stand having non-matching pieces on me. I also need the full set. I cannot STAND wearing armor and missing a piece.

But if you do mix armor sets, what ones do you use and what appearance did you try to accomplish from it?

EDIT: Also, if I am wearing STEEL armor, I almost HAVE to be using STEEL weaponry. Elven Armor? I use Elven weapons.

I'm the same way, i get rather obsessive about matching sets :ermm: on the rare occasion i do mix them i prefer a medium cuiress with the rest of it light armor.

Right now I am a High Elf that uses leather armor with Elven head, hand, foot, and shield armor with an elven sword. I plan on upgrading it to glass when I unlock it.
And my follower is a Dark Elf that uses leather armor with everything else Steel Imperial armor and Steel Axe and Dagger.
I think we look cool for now but I will definately change things as we progress through the game.
But I always switch up my armor types as long as my chest piece stays the same i see a disadvantage with my armor rating. I don't use the matching set perks mostly because I rarely use a matching set except for my tank Orc and his full set of Orc armor.

Meh, I just pick up the most powerful gear I have, I mean, sure, I may be wearing steel plate armour and orcish boots and greeves, but as long as its heavy armour, and almost the same colour, it doesn't make too much of a difference

But yeah, it would be annoying to have orcish pants, steel plate shirt, dwarven shoulderguards, steel guantlets, iron boots. I wouldnt be able to take that man seriously

I try not to mix up armor. Whenever I do, it's usually because I'm missing a peice.

I love this one. I think it's my favourite, and fits so well on my badass Dunmer spellsword:

Stormcloak Officer Helmet
Penitus Occulatus Armour
Stormcloak Officer Bracers
Ancient Shrouded Boots

I only mix with the low-tier fur/leather style gear: Scaled, studded, fur, leather, guard, SC officer, imperial light, etc

Whoa! At first I thought, "this'll look lame", but that actually looks badass! I like it a lot. Good job!

At the moment my character (Etain the Breton, a battlemage) is walking around naked. I'll go to a dungeon (cave, towers, whatever) and fight my way through it. I usually sneak up and stealth kill the first guy, and steal his armor and weaponry, then proceed to slaughter everyone else. I sell everything I loot afterwords.

Right now my Khajit is wearing Imperial Studded Leather Armor, and Leather boots/gloves. He doesn't wear a helmet because he hates how the fold down his ears. He plans to switch to lighter gear once he finds someone to train him in the ways of magic.

I mix with every character to try and create a unique look in vanilla because im xbox. I wear light, heavy and clothes all on 1 guy...my current guy is a badass barbarian who wears ragged trousers, hide boots, steel nordic gauntlets and a talos amulet. He's got that im too badass for a shirt in winter look :P

When im goin to a serious battle i might throw on my ancient nord armor and helm but keep the boots and gauntlets on

My assassin, who uses a bow and sneaks, started out wearing light armor.

But, I found two pieces of heavy armor that increased bow damage by 15% each.

I match... There's a perk for wearing all the same. I'll take it. Being a light armor character, it helps a bit.

My first character, who didn't perk out enchanting, used whatever pieces of armor had the enchants she needed. During the main run at the Civil War & MQ (from the low 40's into the low 50's), she was wearing a mix of Elven, Glass, and Hide (bracers ).

My current characters.... are using mods, and so are wearing all sorts of wacky gear, but typically in "matched" sets. Some variation in helmet/circlets, though. Oh, and this one nice set of pauldrons that I got from the Kara armor set, that goes with any number of other armors that don't have big shoulders.

edit: yeah, that "all matched" perk.... never bothered getting it, because I knew I'd never be able to manage it. Even playing vanilla, I tend to avoid the ugly helmets (hooray for vanilla, non-mod circlets! :D)

After my 3rd character, I quit taking any armor perks. I find better places to spend them on. So like K2 said, my characters wear all kinds of stuff to make them look good.

Besides, almost all of the better armor mods require Smithing, so there is no real need to take Armor perks anyway. This "Armor Cap" doesn't interest me. My Mages and Assassins seldom take damage and my Warriors have a bazillion HPs.

Generally I don't mix. To be honest there are not as many parts as there used to be so there isn't much to mix anyway, plus the 'Matching Set' perk makes it very useful to match things up.

About the only time I don't match is when I can't. Like for example I might wear the Savior's Hide with some Forsworn armor pieces (they seem to match best) since the Savior's Hide isn't a complete set.

I don't mix heavy and light pieces. I decide up front which armor skill I'm going to advance, and I never touch the other one. Other than that, I mix and match based on the utility of what I find. I still need to get into enchanting, so I end up wearing whatever has the best stats, including enchantments. My current Nord character has elven armor of major health, scaled boots of fire suppression, elven bracers of major wielding, glass helmet of eminent magicka, and elven shield of shock suppression. With smithing and armor perks, this package is up to a 506 rating, and I still have a ways to go. A ring of major archery and the Gauldur amulet complete the ensemble.

Most times I don't wear a helmet on my character. (not being able to see my beautiful face? Pffft...I prefer less armor rating then)
I did tried Daedric boots and gauntlets+ Ebony Armor a while ago.
It looked pretty awesome for a dark lord kind of character.
